this song sorta speaks for me. “you don’t mean nothing to me” is describing the people and things i care about but are afraid to lose and let go of, so i try to convince myself i don’t care about anything or anyone. “but you got what it takes to set me free” describes that “one person” who could “free” me from the fear i feel of losing everything all the time. “you could mean everything to me” is like “i accept all the things i’ve lost and i’m afraid to lose you but who knows, you could be my future, my everything.” 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨, 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭

I used to be kinda scared of this song as a kid, it sounds quite eerie but my mom loved it and would play it usually on the night drives back from my dads. I miss curling up in the backseat and watching the streetlights whizz by sleepily while this blasted, I miss feeling anxious from this song because I had no other worries and was so innocent of any stresses that this song genuinely made me scared. Now I find comfort in that feeling.

This song reminds me of when I was five and six, and my mom and I would have the day to ourselves for car rides and trips to the mall. It came out right before my sister was born, and my mom had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It made spending time with her really hard because she was thoroughly exhausted. But she made time for me when she could and always made me feel special. I’ve been having issues with my mental/physical health lately and doctors say it is likely due to my thyroid. It made me think of this song, and listening to it is like a rush of nostalgia.

In the day In the night Say it right Say it all You either got it Or you don't You either stand or you fall When your will is broken When it slips from your hand When there's no time for joking There's a hole in the plan Oh, you don't mean nothing at all to me No, you don't mean nothing at all to me But you got what it takes to set me free Oh, you could mean everything to me I can't say that, I'm not lost and at fault I can't say that, I don't love the light and the dark I can't say that, I don't know that I am alive And all of what I feel I could show You tonight you tonight Oh you don't mean nothing at all to me No you don't mean nothing at all to me But you got what it takes to set me free Oh you could mean everything to me From my hands, I could give you Something that I made From my mouth, I could sing you another brick that I laid From my body, I could show you a place God knows You should know the space is holy Do you really want to go?

This hits differently then the original does. I was thirteen when my mom found this song and showed me. I didn't really understand the nature of the song as a kid, I just loved the beat. I do love the original for how it had a sweet, somber, sultry sass to it. But hearing it slowed and lowered in pitch. It fits with the criteria of the song, makes me have a better appreciation for the song with the idea of moving on from a soured relationship.

something about this song just hits different. the vocals, the background music, the beat. it's just too good. it's crazy how you can make music out to be whatever you want. there are so many people in this world that have different memories that this song could unlock, whether they be good or bad there will always be memories. and music is the closest thing we have to any kind of time machine. so just close your eyes put your headphones in and relax. let all those memories, moments, and nostalgia just flood back in. enjoy, because it's the little moments in life that you will always remember.

I was 7 when this song came out, I didn’t understand the lyrics but oh I loved it and even begged my dad to buy me the CD just for this song. Years later, I forgot about it until when I was packing up my closet during my move last November and I found that old CD from 2006. Popped it into my car stereo and the memories of what feels like a lifetime ago came flooding in. Above all, I can now appreciate the lyrics! Lovely version of an already awesome song!

I remember i couldnt wait for the fridays junior parties , when i was 12,13 years old so i can dance im my favourite disco club back then, i remember being the happiest version of myself back then while dancing on this song, now 14 years later, while listening to this the exact song that made me happy, im the saddest person ever, i cant stop crying for the past 6 years. Depression is real bros and sis, trust me i was the happiest the most joyfull person ever that i couldnt wait to wake up next morning to i dont wanna wake up anymore.. take care bros this is a evil world, a small pain can bring you sadness and depression and then probably is over, im trying to get out , like im a stuck in a maze.. after i turn 23 years old my life became a living hell.. Best wishes to everyone i hope 2024 will be better for all of you..❤

@@ei4572 yes I am grateful to live in a place where I was abused physically and menially, where my mother's side of the family are all racist and like to mentality abuse me, love being around a family that doesn't give a shit about me, love being trapped in a country for nineteen years, only been allowed back twice since I was six, the cost of living is ridiculous, if you want to buy a house here, you have to be a millionaire, renting is just as worse, to do anything fun will cost you an arm and a leg, its ridiculous, the only grateful thing I've gotten is my friends, even they want to leave XD

I was only one when this song came out but I recently rediscovered it a few months ago and I just feel connected to it. It makes me feel so nostalgic of my childhood and sad yet happy all at once. I started playing it in the car a few days ago and my mom said “oh my god I used to love this song!” She told me that she used to play it all the time when I was a baby so maybe I am sort of connected to it.

this song reminds me of the walks i had with my mom in the city centre as a kid. She used to drive me and walk together, go into some shops, and everywhere this song was bopping, i was small but all in my thoughts meanwhile. Now I dance to it on every party but that first emotion that is embedded in me is everlasting. What a time to be a kid. Timbaland is great!

Hey You don't mean nothin' at all to me Hey, hey In the day, in the night Say it right, say it all You either got it, or you don't You either stand, or you fall When your will is broken When it slips from your hand When there's no, time for joking There's a hole in the plan Oh, you don't mean nothing at all to me (Hey, hey) No, you don't mean nothing at all to me (Hey, hey) But you got what it takes to set me free (Hey, hey) Oh, you could mean everything to me (Hey, hey) I can't say (Say), that I'm not (Not), lost (Lost), and at fault (Fault) I can't say (Say), that I don't (Don't), love the light (Love), and the dark I can't say that I don't (Don't), know that I am alive And all of what I feel (Feel) I could show (Show) You tonight, you tonight Oh, you don't mean nothing at all to me (Hey, hey) No, you don't mean nothing at all to me (Hey, hey) But you got what it takes to set me free (Hey, hey) Oh, you could mean everything to me (Hey, hey) From my hands, I could give you, something that I made From my mouth, I could sing you, another brick that I laid From my body (From my body), I could show you (I could show you) A place (A place), God knows (That only God knows) You should know the space is holy Do you really wanna go?
