this song sorta speaks for me. “you don’t mean nothing to me” is describing the people and things i care about but are afraid to lose and let go of, so i try to convince myself i don’t care about anything or anyone. “but you got what it takes to set me free” describes that “one person” who could “free” me from the fear i feel of losing everything all the time. “you could mean everything to me” is like “i accept all the things i’ve lost and i’m afraid to lose you but who knows, you could be my future, my everything.” 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨, 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭

I used to be kinda scared of this song as a kid, it sounds quite eerie but my mom loved it and would play it usually on the night drives back from my dads. I miss curling up in the backseat and watching the streetlights whizz by sleepily while this blasted, I miss feeling anxious from this song because I had no other worries and was so innocent of any stresses that this song genuinely made me scared. This song reminds me of when I was five and six, and my mom and I would have the day to ourselves for car rides and trips to the mall. It came out right before my sister was born, and my mom had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It made spending time with her really hard because she was thoroughly exhausted. But she made time for me when she could and always made me feel special. I’ve been having issues with my mental/physical health lately and doctors say it is likely due to my thyroid. It made me think of this song, and listening to it is like a rush of nostalgia.

This hits differently then the original does. I was thirteen when my mom found this song and showed me. I didn't really understand the nature of the song as a kid, I just loved the beat. I do love the original for how it had a sweet, somber, sultry sass to it. But hearing it slowed and lowered in pitch. It fits with the criteria of the song, makes me have a better appreciation for the song with the idea of moving on from a soured relationship.

something about this song just hits different. the vocals, the background music, the beat. it's just too good. it's crazy how you can make music out to be whatever you want. there are so many people in this world that have different memories that this song could unlock, whether they be good or bad there will always be memories. and music is the closest thing we have to any kind of time machine. so just close your eyes put your headphones in and relax. let all those memories, moments, and nostalgia just flood back in. enjoy, because it's the little moments in life that you will always remember.

Hey You don't mean nothin' at all to me Hey, hey In the day, in the night Say it right, say it all You either got it, or you don't You either stand, or you fall When your will is broken When it slips from your hand When there's no, time for joking There's a hole in the plan Oh, you don't mean nothing at all to me (Hey, hey) No, you don't mean nothing at all to me (Hey, hey) But you got what it takes to set me free (Hey, hey) Oh, you could mean everything to me (Hey, hey) I can't say (Say), that I'm not (Not), lost (Lost), and at fault (Fault) I can't say (Say), that I don't (Don't), love the light (Love), and the dark I can't say that I don't (Don't), know that I am alive And all of what I feel (Feel) I could show (Show) You tonight, you tonight Oh, you don't mean nothing at all to me (Hey, hey) No, you don't mean nothing at all to me (Hey, hey) But you got what it takes to set me free (Hey, hey) Oh, you could mean everything to me (Hey, hey) From my hands, I could give you, something that I made From my mouth, I could sing you, another brick that I laid From my body (From my body), I could show you (I could show you) A place (A place), God knows (That only God knows) You should know the space is holy Do you really wanna go? Hey, hey, hey You don't mean nothin' at all to me Hey, hey Hey, hey, hey You don't mean nothin' at all to me Hey, hey

This hits hard when there’s someone that means the world to you but you pretend like they mean nothing…

When I was younger I loved this song it gave me good vibes ...now I understand the lyrics and can relate to it and that’s a different kind of feeling (a song that made you happy is helping you cry now)

Oh, God, I'm big fan of Nelly Furtado and "Say it Right" is one of my favorites songs from her. This version is amazing. Thanks 😍

I remember listening to this song with my family driving far. I was a child but this song made me visualize deep beautiful lonely mountains. On top of the world, but so alone & rather bitter. But the quietness & peace Is somewhat comforting

I think the thing I’m finding saddest is the amount of people commenting that they listened to this song as a kid, why didn’t anyone tell me I’m old 😭 here come the waterworks!!!
