I was only able to get through 19mins of this sermon a little longer than I should have but I had to listen to see how he’d finish a segment of the sermon. He asked me to watch because I critiqued an IG video which sounded like he was preaching a manifestation, speaking things into existence message. The text used to begin the sermon was Mark 4:35-41 when Jesus calmed the sea. Now the main idea of that passage of scripture was the disciples lack of faith. Jesus calmed the sea by His words and rebuked the disciples for not resting in Him for their safety. Pastor Brian cross references that passage with Matthew 18:18 whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. Whatever you loose on earth will be loosed heaven. The context of that verse was church discipline giving the apostles power to decide who can stay in church or who will get kicked out. Pastor Brian made that verse to mean “find your voice… Christians are struggling because they aren’t binding whatever comes in to our households.” This was eisegesis at its best not true to biblical context. I think he should repent and draw out from the scripture what it really says and not misinterpret texts to sound cool for the culture. Mark 4 and Matthew 18:18 are beautiful profound life changing passages that not only convict but encourage us to lean on Christ for all things. You strip God’s power away and place it where it doesn’t belong, on us, when you don’t stick to the text. If the Bible is the powerful word of God then it needs to be preached as is, in its context with the proper exegesis then peoples hearts will truly be changed.
