This beat was supposed to be a ‘2-step’ garage track. Darkchild was in the UK around the time just before he made the beat for say my name, he was doing some stuff with the spice girls (he produced holla) but not sure if it was that specific track that brought him over here……anyway he went out to a club in London with them & in the late 90s early 00’s the 2step/garage sound was the sound of the underground UK black music music scene. He loved the sound so much he originally produced a 2 step track for DC for say my name (I believe the vocals were done already) but after getting back to the states & showing DC they didn’t like it so he changed the production & it’s what we hear today
