weirdly, maria and hamilton’s vocals compliment each other so well than eliza and hamilton’s duets. don’t get me wrong, i also think alex and angelica’s similar rap flows and schticks are so cute, and i love when they harmonize in take a break. but with reynolds and hamilton, it’s like rihanna and eminem. heck, even lin said alex’s characterization was inspired by eminem (& sweeney todd) and jazzy’s voice is so riri here. she did the riri-ification of a historical snacc so well. also, i just realized hamilton is literally beyoncé but historically. like, the schuyler sisters number and characterization were inspired by destiny’s child, countdown inspired helpless. (not my wording) given that angelica and eliza both had their beyonce monents, maria is vocally a distinct contrast which echoes the way in which popular media loves to paint rihanna as bey’s seductive rival for her husband jay Z's affections. angelica = solange eliza = bey, obviously alex = jay-z and eliza and bey got cheated on by subpar-looking men, with both of their sisters literally roasting tf out of the cheaters.
