DC created GO GO music which put us on the map musically but GOGO music only went so far. Memphis, Atlanta, New York, California all have their own sound. DC never had a rap scene so we can't expect Wale to create a sound and put the whole city on his back. Wale did his part by bringing light to where he claims he from and it's your job to grind and make the most of the attention just like Fat Trel and Shy Glizzy did. It’s a difference between putting someone on and complaining about getting put on. 1. The current crop of DMV rappers with deals, Not under Wale’s umbrella. 2. The bulk of the artists that were associated with Board of Administration didn’t blown up per se. Trel got his, but did a lot of grinding after he left BOA. 3. There are other DMV Rappers with deals. Ade, Goldlink, Logic, Rico Nasty, Oddisee… They just aren’t in the trap space. What Ant is saying is, Wale’s 10+ year run hasn’t been filled with a flood of rappers after him. Granted there’s others for sure. But the Yo Gotti’s, The Durk’s, The Lil Baby’s, The Gucci’s, they all brought others to the table and set plays for others to flourish. THAT hasn’t happened YET here in The DMV. So when random rappers say, “Wale put me on.” It’s more so, “Wale co-signed me and looked out.” And not, “Wale used his platform to get me a deal.” I get what Ant saying. Ant ain’t complaining about not being out on.

Great points and I'll add that DC has never been known for having rap stars or a major label and Wale wasn't even wanted it was by default. DCTC aka Deacon Preizt would've been the best choice but he went the CHH wrote at that time and labels weren't supporting that yet.

Wale will always get respect in DC for Nike Boots 🫶🏾 that IS the real DC… but it’s been 15 years, and I do agree with Ant that he could put more energy to assisting DC artists make it in the industry. However let’s not forget, Wale really from Maryland so it’s not like he’s connected to a neighborhood in the city anyway 🤷🏽♂️ & Shawn is right our artists don’t do enough on their own to make it if we’re being real.
