I feel you brother. Was there when they shot my cousin in the head, I was literally looking in the guys eye as he pulled the trigger. That day hunted my memory for years, I can remember it all from the sound of the gun firing to the blood stain being left on my shirt. For so long all I could think about was when I’d get revenge on him, and I mean at any cost, I would’ve gladly left a trail of tears and blood behind me if it meant getting to him in the end. Caused me to enter the worst period of my life as my heart was split, part of me wanted revenge with everything in my soul and the other half knew I was better than this, knew I had to be better than the other people in my family, and knew the outcome that it gets you. Once I realized that me, being the oldest male in my close family who isn’t dead or in jail, I saw a lot of the younger kids looking up to me and wanting to emulate my behavior. Started hanging with the wrong crowd, carrying guns, having opps, and that shit weighed on my soul like you couldn’t even imagine. Eventually I had to give up on my revenge because it wasn’t worth furthing the cycle. Wish more people would come to the realization that it’s just not worth it, we leave our community, our family, our culture, ourselves, everything in pain when we choose this life
