Saying Goodbye 🥲- 1,000 Mile Offshore Passage Apart (Calico Skies Sailing Ep.105)

The time has come for us to say goodbye... After sailing nearly 30,000 miles together, Grace has decided to not sail this passage and will meet Calico Skies in Panama giving new crew the opportunity to log some offshore miles. After saying goodbye the boys don't waste any time digging into our large to do list before heading out to sea.
First up is showing the guys the "ropes" so to speak...walking them through the many sail control lines we have on Calico Skies. Due to our numerous sail configurations there is an added level of complexity. Next up is getting off the dock so we can give the bottom a good scrubbing. Our first leg will have us motoring 300 miles to windward and we don't want any excess drag. On our last evening at anchor we enjoy a nice dinner & drinks onboard.
The first order of business upon waking up on the morning of departure is lifting and securing the dinghy on the foredeck..and just like that anchor is up and we are off!

I think the situation varies. In our case the crew were patrons eager for blue water experience. They paid their travel costs to the boat and we provided food and fuel while staying with us 👍

Boy that Sabre is well rigged. as you went through your explanation to crew it all made sense and I thought " to a Landlubber it must look like a Bowl of Spaghetti." How many times have WE heard " oh, Sailing...it looks like So Much Work..?" NAAAH. Our vessels Want To Sail, WE JUST HELP THEM. Your crew looks young and healthy and the passage should go well...depending on their Stomachs...lol. No body wants to see "Lunch" on the sole of the cockpit. Windage and Elevation! Calico Skies is a messy mess, with a constant unraveling; Delos is the example of supreme arrangement, of explanation to the smallest detail however this can be seen as something in Bill's favor, only he can manage that amalgamation of cords and sails, while Brian would be more easily replaceable I'm kidding, of course being so different they are both excellent sailors and good people. I love you both, guys

I couldn't understand the review of sheets, halyards, etc. wouldn't sail (especially offshore and long passages) with such poor communication skills. A poor briefing, familiarisation, etc, is a recipe for failure.

You need to understand that the video is edited, they're only giving you a small portion of things like that, there's a lot to squeeze into a 15 minute video... Not everything is filmed and a lot of what is filmed ends up being cut from the final video...
