@@julianofmadagascar I have ADHD and Bipolar and I wouldn’t consider them health issues. ADHD is more of an ever present thing and different way of thinking. It’s not something that can be solved which feels like issue implies. Same with Bipolar, you don’t fix Bipolar you manage and prevent episodes. Now I consider a depressive or manic episode to be a health issue. I also have an autoimmune disorder which caused me to have arthritis in my extremities. I consider those things issues as I am actively trying to get rid of them or to reduce the severity of symptoms. Idk might just be a difference in how I think and perceive things. If I was obese, which I am not, I would consider that a health issue as if I gain 10lbs I can feel the pain worsen in my knees and hips. When people say weight doesn’t affect their knee/hip pain, unless it’s neuropathic or psychological, you are either lying or your wait changes so slowly that you don’t realize the change in pain levels.

I actually have hypothyroidism and have never been fat a day in my life. So tired of people using my illness to justify morbid obesity. I literally only have to cut back 100 calories off my TDEE and exercise occasionally to make up for the metabolic differences. Hypothyroidism accounts for maybe an extra 10 to 20 lbs from when you didn't have it, but gaining hundreds is an excuse just like those who gain a fuck ton during pregnancy. Pregnancy doesn't make you fat, overeating does. Every. Single. Time.

I have no thyroid and have issues losing weight, but - a big but - I realize what I need to eat to help my body absorb and convert the replacement hormones, to at least walk a mile every day, and to eat a caloric deficit lifestyle. Whole foods are always the best but you can't deny yourself everything. Treating yourself is fine in moderation. I got to do that just yesterday. My foster sons (both overweight but uninterested in putting in the work to lose) got the biggest Raising Canes meal each while I got the kids meal. Myself, completely satisfied. They both were like that would not be enough for an adult.

I knew I was lying to myself, but it was a convenient excuse to avoid doing the hard work. About 6 months ago, I happened upon one of Michelle's vids. I started and continued watching because I enjoyed her personality and perspective. Eventually, what Michelle kept saying sunk in - that physical ailments like mine may make weight loss more difficult - but not impossible. I finally decided to make changes - mostly because I wanted to feel better (I had longed stopped caring that much about weight as a physical attribute). I was sick of feeling sick all the time. @@dickersoncharlie4961 Monitor your food in some way (log calories, count them, or only have two meals a day no snacking etc) as a first step, makes you aware of how much your eating so you can reduce it. Now to make it easier theres two things that make you feel fuller without so much calories: Fiber and protein. Centre your meals on those two things. Steak and veggies, yogurt and blueberries, chicken/tofu salads or just anything you can find that is a high amount of protein and fiber. Salmon is especially good as not only protein but really healthy fat, which can be filling too. Try to lower sugar however you can, such as switching to diet sodas, using honey instead of syrups, try to have savoury over sweet. By trying to avoid sugar and trying to eat more fiber you will realise that most processed food is just no good and that unprocessed whole foods are better. That is mostly about eating, but another thing that helps is if you drink a lot of alcohol is best to just avoid it as much as possible. It has calories, doesnt fill you up, and makes your hungrier for bad food. Drinking tea and coffee especially if you are slightly hungry will help a lot. Try to move more such as walking even if its around the house doing chores or going dancing, as you will be less tempted to snack on foods if you are busy moving around doing something. Maybe find a sport you enjoy, like swimming/cycling/dancing/climbing and join a club or do it with other people so you look forward to it.

I've fought my weight since my teens. Now I'm nearly middle-aged. And one thing I can tell you: the thin girls who never worried about their weight? Now they're seeing the weight creep on, especially around their abdomen, and they don't know how to deal with it. And I'm still fighting (eating as well as I can and exercising) as I've needed to do most of my life. (Yes, I had to get over the fact that this wasn't fair, too! Everyone's dealing with something, like Michelle says.) These women who do have a tendency to gain weight even when they're younger... it's just going to get worse as they age. May as well deal with it now. Stop saying "it's not fair my body is like this" and just do your best with food and exercise choices. You only get one body.

Yes, I’ve been on a diet since age 7. I was insulin resistant back when none of the other girls were. In the 80s, being the kid that was 15 lbs overweight was horrible. Almost nobody was obese then, and when I look back at pictures of my father who looked SO fat to me back then, he wasn’t even that fat as compared to women these days. He was very tall and looked like a football player. But back then, people were not very fat, and people would tell you that you needed to lose weight. My grandma would be the first to say, “You look fat.” So I’ve been watching what I eat for 40 years now.

As one of those (formerly) thin girls who never had to worry about their weight, can confirm (ugh). Started gaining when I hit my 40s, so the last six years have been a crash course in portion sizes, macros, and weight training. Start early, gang. Even if you're not overweight. Because your time is coming, LOL.

I don’t watch those “fat positive” videos because I don’t need anymore excuses. I have my own excuses. They are easy to come up with. I need motivation to get up and encouragement that bad days (or even weeks) happen and it is hard but you CAN do it no matter where you start and if you fall, then get back up and try again. It starts with making better choices. I don’t need excuses to stay on the couch. I need motivation to get up and make my bed and walk my dog and do my physical therapy, and kick the ball or go to the park with my kids. I need to eat better and less so that I can do everything I can to be around for my kids and run with them and climb up their play stuff with them and my knees and back and hips don’t hurt. I appreciate the “you got this, you don’t have to jump out of your comfort zone, but get your ass up and start with one foot” videos, because that’s what I need. So thank you.

It's one of the things that makes it hard for me to not be UNDERweight because the pain makes me extremely nauseous, and having stuff in my digestive system pushes on my uterus and is excruciating. So I eat extremely lightly 1/4th of the time.

This ish takes a toll on your body over time, period. I was rushed into emergency surgery a couple of weeks ago & my recovery has been as speedy as it has been because I’ve been working with a trainer for the last few months & my muscles were strong enough to help me walk out of the hospital days earlier than expected… I mean.. As someone who doesn’t have the “typical PCOS body” meaning I’m thin, I have actually had trouble losing weight. When my symptoms actually started to show, I went from weighing 100lbs to 120lbs out of nowhere (I’m aware that doesn’t sound like a big deal but I’m tiny, only 5’2, it was very noticeable) then over the years I got to like 135lbs and again, I’m small so I don’t look like I weigh that much. I had to do a lot of eating adjustments to start losing weight and noticing changes in my body, including reduced symptoms like bloating and fatigue. I’m just weighting to push out my child and recover so I can start working out again

Commenting to remind y'all it's also possible to lose weight while on birth control. I usually gain 15 to 20 pounds whenever I get my nexplanon replaced and as long as I stick to a healthy, high protein diet and do my dance aerobics I'm able to keep the weight off and not feel sluggish from hormones.

I actually am able to lose weight faster when on birth control. My doc put me on it when I was 26 and I just stopped in 2 years. Lost weight while on it gained a lot when off it. Am on it again. Losing weight again. I'm also on other medications for diabetes and thyroid so that's also helping. If your birth control is not helping you and is causing weight gain even after a few months (3-6) talk to your doctor. Maybe they can suggest a different birth control for you. I had to try two as well, because the first one made me sad (if that makes sense) though neither caused weight gain.

@@mmmmmmmmaria One symptom of ADHD is poor impulse control. So if you also have binge eating disorder, that makes it difficult to be consistent with nutrition and not overeat. Accept the reality you CANNOT eat like a normal person. The ONLY way to lose weight and keep it off on PCOS is go no sugar low carb. I know it sounds like I’m a keto bible thumper, but if you look it up, time and time again it prescribes this diet, due to the insulin resistance PCOS causes. If are in a carb binge-crazy hungry for carbs-carb binge cycle, this is NOT due to poor willpower or just not wanting to lose weight enough. If you eat carbs or sugar you are unknowingly making your body profoundly addicted to them, and you cannot willpower it out, as it becomes a physiological, NOT a psychological need to carb binge. I’ve struggle with PCOS weight gain and binge eating since I was 13, and at 40, the ONLY thing that has really allowed me to lose weight and no longer need carb binges was keto, as I am no longer feeding the bodily addiction to carbs and sugar.

She made losing some weight and maintaining that, her priority. She's training professionally on an atheletes programme now, because she found power and confidence through her training and newfound passion. I'm not saying it's easy to change everything all of a sudden, but i saw how hard it was for her when she let herself wallow in her negative thoughts and accept that she's largely controlled by her medical condition.
