Hello Michelle! I just wanted to say thank you so much, I have been struggling with my anorexia for such a long time, and you helped me to stop making excuses for not getting help and showed me that recovery doesn't mean I will end up beeing fat/let myself go, that I can change for the better and become stronger by training. I am now in treatment, and I want to say you have inspired me to start my fitness journey in the near future, and I'm very thankful to you for that

🥲 I've been sad because out of nowhere I gained a bunch of weight and could barely breathe, I feel ugly and not like me and now the more active I am I get light headed. I feel like my life is out of my control, welp turns out I gotta get a biopsy and weight gain was a rare symptom. Once im better better believe I'm gonna drop all this weight tho!

@@julianofmadagascar I have ADHD and Bipolar and I wouldn’t consider them health issues. ADHD is more of an ever present thing and different way of thinking. It’s not something that can be solved which feels like issue implies. Same with Bipolar, you don’t fix Bipolar you manage and prevent episodes. Now I consider a depressive or manic episode to be a health issue. I also have an autoimmune disorder which caused me to have arthritis in my extremities. I consider those things issues as I am actively trying to get rid of them or to reduce the severity of symptoms. Idk might just be a difference in how I think and perceive things. If I was obese, which I am not, I would consider that a health issue as if I gain 10lbs I can feel the pain worsen in my knees and hips. When people say weight doesn’t affect their knee/hip pain, unless it’s neuropathic or psychological, you are either lying or your wait changes so slowly that you don’t realize the change in pain levels.

Gaming, It’s called attention deficit, hyperactivity disorder. It the words “deficit” and “disorder” are in the disease’s name, that should tell you all you need to know. Trying to normalize ADHD as “a different way of thinking” does a terrible disservice to those of us who actually suffer from it It can ruin your job potential, ruin your marriage, make you a shitty parent and basically ruin your life. “A different way of thinking, “my ass.

It's funny when I stopped hating myself is when I lost weight and kept it off and broke the cycle of excuses, self-hatred, and yo-yo dieting taught to me. The "dieting" or losing weight wasn't the issue. Now that I am at a healthy weight, my family accuses me of having a ED frequently because they can't accept that there might be a way to permanently change yourself for the better

People assume that, but often the self hate is true and that’s not wrong. it’s okay to hate your body and want to change it. I hated my fat body. Although I wouldn’t even be allowed to call it fat nowadays. To this day I still think I looked disgusting, even repulsive and I never want to get back to that point. There’s nothing wrong with that. Excuses. Laziness = hideous footwear? No, I refuse. I'll walk out of the house barefoot before I go to the store and buy a pair of crocs. You could choose any other pair of shoes, anything in the world (Skechers makes a slip on that is the easiest thing in the world to use, and flyknit running shoes are the greatest thing ever). There's no reason to walk around looking like the billboard for mid-life crisis just because something is easy and comes with flair buttons. Might as well break out the bedazzled jean jacket and polka dot blouse to finish off the fit.

💯 I also find it infuriating the victim mentality while being a bully. If they want to live an unhealthy lifestyle be my guest but don't go after people that wants to be healthy or that are naturally thin. Imagine if an alcoholic with a failing liver would hate on people with healthy working livers because "it's unfair I'm healthy I promise I just drink occasionally socially I'm just unlucky my liver is so weak, you don't understand". They don't do that because is just ridiculous as ridiculous as choosing to stay fat because you don't want to give up your bad habits but also getting triggered by people with other body sizes. Everybody should be held accountable of their own actions crapping on other people to try to make themselves look better won't save their knees or organs when they hit their mid 30s or 40s 🤷‍♀️

Truthfully, I find it really motivating to know that people with PCOS can lose weight with extra work because these "activists" really almost had me believing I was powerless and becoming overweight was just inevitable. My family is prone to diabetes and knee issues and I am NOT going through that. Just because something "isn't your fault" doesn't mean dealing with it isn't your responsibility.

I too lost weight with PCOS, from 90kg to 69kg (still losing). I have half heartedly attempted to lose weight in the past but then always allowed people to convince me it would be impossible or too difficult with PCOS but really consistently eating less works. This time round it worked because I decided not to believe in any nonsense, and I just have to eat a lot of protein and try to monitor how much sugar I am having.

Therapist here...love your videos because it is refreshing to still see messages of empowering people to make changes in their life in a society where we have an epidemic of victim mentality, especially on social media. It's true that everyone has something hard in their life that they have to overcome, you can choose to let that keep you down or you can change your mindset and find a way to overcome. victim mentality - that's very well put. I feel like many people create more problems or pathologise more than necessary. Like a diagnosis isn't the first step toward treatment and betterment, it's become a reason why everyone had to accommodate me in my suffering without me taking any steps to get better. Makes the person suffer more and everyone around them as well.

I literally only have to cut back 100 calories off my TDEE and exercise occasionally to make up for the metabolic differences. Hypothyroidism accounts for maybe an extra 10 to 20 lbs from when you didn't have it, but gaining hundreds is an excuse just like those who gain a fuck ton during pregnancy. Whole foods are always the best but you can't deny yourself everything. Treating yourself is fine in moderation. I got to do that just yesterday. This is really comforting to those of us that have fought the fight. We should all love ourselves and value ourselves, but that means loving ourselves enough to protect our health and safety. That takes a lot of hard work, but it is what it is. It doesn’t mean we don’t have to do it. Do we have to accept toxic diet culture? No. Do we have to be “skinny”, no way. For several years, I told myself there was no point trying to lose weight because my physical issues made it impossible. I knew I was lying to myself, but it was a convenient excuse to avoid doing the hard work. About 6 months ago, I happened upon one of Michelle's vids. I started and continued watching because I enjoyed her personality and perspective. Eventually, what Michelle kept saying sunk in - that physical ailments like mine may make weight loss more difficult - but not impossible. I finally decided to make changes - mostly because I wanted to feel better (I had longed stopped caring that much about weight as a physical attribute). I was sick of feeling sick all the time. Six months later and 50+ pounds lost. More importantly, I am in the best health I've been in for more than 10 years.

Any person that tells me that being overweight is healthy with no consequences is full of sht & in full denial. It's not easy but I'm not one to be in denial about facts. Thanks for the friendly reminder not to give up even when it's hard.

"It's ok" is one of the most damaging sentences I have ever told to myself regarding to being overweight. Funny thing is letting that sink in and me to actually feel somewhat ok took me 3ish years but after gaining more weight and not being ok anymore it only took half a year to lose weight and actually feel better. Today about 3 years later I'm only 1kg away from the target weight I originally set myself. Trying to accept the unhealthy as "ok" can be much harder and even longer process than doing the "hard" steps

I have endometriosis, pcos, and fibroids. I got way too comfortable with my eating habits at the start and during the pandemic, and it took a toll on me physically, mentally, and emotionally. I recently got out of my rut a couple of months ago, changed my diet and started exercising again, and I’m starting to feel better. You are absolutely right, Michelle. There’s no sense in having that “woe is me” thought pattern. That’s the ultimate downfall/death of a person. I've had to leave groups for women with PCOS because there are so many women in there who not only accept that they cannot make any weight loss progress due to the condition, but lash out at people who ask for weight loss advice or give their weight loss advice. It just becomes a pit of misery where people drag each other deeper into despair and away from one of the things that could actually improve some symptoms. Literally, the people in my bipolar support groups are less determined to stay down and bring everyone else down.

@@dickersoncharlie4961 Monitor your food in some way (log calories, count them, or only have two meals a day no snacking etc) as a first step, makes you aware of how much your eating so you can reduce it. Now to make it easier theres two things that make you feel fuller without so much calories: Fiber and protein. Centre your meals on those two things. Steak and veggies, yogurt and blueberries, chicken/tofu salads or just anything you can find that is a high amount of protein and fiber. Salmon is especially good as not only protein but really healthy fat, which can be filling too. Try to lower sugar however you can, such as switching to diet sodas, using honey instead of syrups, try to have savoury over sweet. By trying to avoid sugar and trying to eat more fiber you will realise that most processed food is just no good and that unprocessed whole foods are better. That is mostly about eating, but another thing that helps is if you drink a lot of alcohol is best to just avoid it as much as possible. It has calories, doesnt fill you up, and makes your hungrier for bad food. Drinking tea and coffee especially if you are slightly hungry will help a lot. Try to move more such as walking even if its around the house doing chores or going dancing, as you will be less tempted to snack on foods if you are busy moving around doing something. Maybe find a sport you enjoy, like swimming/cycling/dancing/climbing and join a club or do it with other people so you look forward to it.

@@dickersoncharlie4961 The trick to doing well is SMALL changes over time add up. I've lost 10lbs in the last year. I switched to Huel for breakfast (calories counted), switched to either chicken and rice (measured, counted) or Overnight oats for lunch. I drink water, a LOT of water, but it's flavored with store brand water flavors (Mio is the brand name). Best thing about the water? I HAVE to move. I got rid of the little debbies and switched to healthier snacks, yes I have chocolate almonds, but I limit myself to six almonds per day--this satisfies sweet AND crunch. I have open bowls of fruit in my fridge for snacking on. Keep checking the serving sizes and stick to them, and count them. For working out, I'm asthmatic and neurodivergent, so I have issues doing the treadmill, BUT I have a playstation 2 and Dance Dance Revolution Supernova, and I can do that! I also walk to pick up my daughter. But I'm not overdoing it, I'm not getting up at 4am every day to hit the gym. I'm making SMALL maintainable changes over time. You can do it! I thought I was a weak person for being debilitated by cramps and backaches every month (also, random 3 week long periods). Trying to workout while on my period felt impossible and I thought I was just being weak-willed. I've fought my weight since my teens. Now I'm nearly middle-aged. And one thing I can tell you: the thin girls who never worried about their weight? Now they're seeing the weight creep on, especially around their abdomen, and they don't know how to deal with it. And I'm still fighting (eating as well as I can and exercising) as I've needed to do most of my life. (Yes, I had to get over the fact that this wasn't fair, too! Everyone's dealing with something, like Michelle says.) These women who do have a tendency to gain weight even when they're younger... it's just going to get worse as they age. May as well deal with it now. Stop saying "it's not fair my body is like this" and just do your best with food and exercise choices. You only get one body.

Yes, I’ve been on a diet since age 7. I was insulin resistant back when none of the other girls were. In the 80s, being the kid that was 15 lbs overweight was horrible. Almost nobody was obese then, and when I look back at pictures of my father who looked SO fat to me back then, he wasn’t even that fat as compared to women these days. He was very tall and looked like a football player. But back then, people were not very fat, and people would tell you that you needed to lose weight. My grandma would be the first to say, “You look fat.” So I’ve been watching what I eat for 40 years now.

I need motivation to get up and encouragement that bad days (or even weeks) happen and it is hard but you CAN do it no matter where you start and if you fall, then get back up and try again. It starts with making better choices. I don’t need excuses to stay on the couch. I need motivation to get up and make my bed and walk my dog and do my physical therapy, and kick the ball or go to the park with my kids. I need to eat better and less so that I can do everything I can to be around for my kids and run with them and climb up their play stuff with them and my knees and back and hips don’t hurt. I appreciate the “you got this, you don’t have to jump out of your comfort zone, but get your ass up and start with one foot” videos, because that’s what I need. So thank you.

Accept the reality you CANNOT eat like a normal person. The ONLY way to lose weight and keep it off on PCOS is go no sugar low carb. I know it sounds like I’m a keto bible thumper, but if you look it up, time and time again it prescribes this diet, due to the insulin resistance PCOS causes. If are in a carb binge-crazy hungry for carbs-carb binge cycle, this is NOT due to poor willpower or just not wanting to lose weight enough. If you eat carbs or sugar you are unknowingly making your body profoundly addicted to them, and you cannot willpower it out, as it becomes a physiological, NOT a psychological need to carb binge. I’ve struggle with PCOS weight gain and binge eating since I was 13, and at 40, the ONLY thing that has really allowed me to lose weight and no longer need carb binges was keto, as I am no longer feeding the bodily addiction to carbs and sugar.

We talk about self-love but a part of loving ourselves is having the will to make beneficial changes. I hope your trials bloom❤ your efforts can be worth it all
