@@p.martin974 no, orthodox Jews and Orthodox Christians are completely different. Would had been nice of the original comment to add that the bride was a Jew, because most often people only use the word "orthodox" to refer to Orthodox Christians. But maybe that's not really the case in America? Or maybe some Americans haven't heard of Orthodox Christianity and don't even know we exist.

She is Kleinfeld's consultant for religious/modest brides. While is is Jewish, she also works with Muslim and Christian brides who want more modest dresses. They actually bring in a lot of their modest dresses from designers in Utah, where modest dresses are more is demand because of the high number of LDS brides who require, at minimum, covered shoulders. Many of them want long sleeves or inserts for the ceremony itself (which requires long sleeves) and they have shorter sleeves for the reception/ring ceremony. HOwever, there are a handful of Jewish designers there in NYC, too. They just don't necessary sell to Kleinfeld.

I really like they didn't make fun of her being modest. When I got married they kept saying I need to get over it because all wedding dresses show things. I found a place that did respect what I believed in. when my sister got married we had a really bad time. They was suppose to put sleeves on her dress and only put straps on it . The next day was her wedding so her and I made some kind of cap sleeve for it she felt indecent all day. We have never even worn a tank top before and it felt odd to her. Why people can't respect each other I will never understand. There should be wedding dresses for all beliefs. No one should be made to feel strange.

This is one of the reasons why I've decided to start a custom clothing business. My religion also has very clear modesty guidelines. I met my husband in an AOL chat room when I was looking for good conversation. The conversation was like watching grass grow and I was about to log off when he asked, “Why aren’t you speaking?l “I said because no one has spoken to me.” He was in another country. We spoke every night for 3 weeks when I realized I needed to end our friendship. I wasn’t going to move and I would never ask him to move. He wouldn’t have it! We met in less than 3 months and h survived my family. I knew when he stepped off the plane he was going to marry me, but said nothing. On the second visit he proposed when we were standing in a waterfall! Then, he returned home. He was back 1 month later and we saw an immigration lawyer who said we needed to wait 30 days before marrying. We have been married well over 20 years and have 5 kids and 2 grandchildren with many more grandchildren to come! We never want to be apart! We are woven together like the triple standard cord with Jesus Christ!

Actually, we think of it more as freedom. The guy only will look at his wife, and other people will look more at the women for their minds instead of their bodies. My parents would not let me out of the house without being properly covered because mom knew that there were weirdos everywhere. My parents wanted me to be seen, not just my looks. I was actually one of those kids who grew into my body slowly. If I did wear body hugging clothes, I would have had a great figure due to my high metabolism. So glad she stuck to her guns and got the first dress, which she looks stunning in! And that consultant is the absolute BEST! 110% on the bride's side, with the perfect pep talks in between fittings, and best of all, shutting down the entourage at the merest hint of negativity towards how she looked (and she did not have "wide looking hips"; it was clearly the dress and not at all her)

This is the meanest entourage I've seen. The blogger is a jerk. And what's with her scanty mini-dress and GO-GO BOOTS when you're out with conservative Jews? That makes no sense - all attention getting behavior and all about "her". I personally do not care about anyone here but the bride and the consultant. And the mother saying she has "wide hips" - what the heck? That's how a ball gown fits. I'm glad the bride stuck with the dress she loved and wasn't swayed by everyone else. Great consultant.

Orthodox not conservative. Huge difference actually. And not everyone who has orthodox friends is themselves religious. So they can dress how they see fit. Also, the family wasn’t that ‘mean’, I’ve seen so much worse. We as Jews are very opinionated and tell how we see it. The consultant did an amazing job but the family was great and you could see how happy they were for the bride. And to the bride and groom - מזל טוב ❤

Yes and no. IF you give it time and it works out then great. But in the honeymoon period hormones mean we often brush things aside, or people can put on an act for a little while until they get what they want. Give people time and the bad ones will eventually do bad things. I notice they didn't mention her age but she is probably quite young and this may be semi arranged. @@tigertbalma high quality store like kleinfeld offers the option of "building up" a gown by adding matching fabric to close up the neckline and add sleeves. In this video you see the consultant explaining that the sleeves would be lace. For regular dresses, we Orthodox Jews would pull a sleeveless dress off the rack and wear a shell (that stretchy shirt) underneath.

In the past thirty years "shells" have become a staple of the Jewish wardrobe. Basically you can go to any secular store and buy anything with a neckline or sleeves that don't fit the modesty criteria, then take it to a store and choose from tens of different colors, fabrics, and styles of shells. Very often you can get the same exact shade and it looks like it's part of the dress or top. In addition to the religious factor, it's also great from a fashion perspective. There's a chain of stores called The Shell Station. Booming business!

@ deathbyblond. The matchmaker is orthodox but bending the rules. In the orthodox world we would say she is more modern. Her standards of modesty would be considered not ok by most orthodox people, however, like ALL cultures we have a continuum of people. Some are more conservative than others and some are more stringent than others. In fact, this is exactly what the matchmaking would accomplish - weeding out where you are on that continuum so that by the time you meet you have someone who is in a similar place

@@ivettepassiglia4971Maybe (?) for Orthodox Jews… but not for all Orthodox people, including lots of Orthodox Christians. My ex-husband was Orthodox (from Romania)…most of the religious ppl in Romania and Greece are Orthodox Christians and dress in a modern style rather than a conservative one. I was baptized in an Orthodox Church in Romania as an adult before we married. I remember that I tried on and fell in love with a strapless dress for our wedding and thought I would maybe need a shawl, bolero, etc. to cover my shoulders for the ceremony but that wasn’t even required.
