I have seen the lyrics. Relax! You don't walk around listening to music with lyrics, that's why I always listen to a song without the first time. The lyrics could be great but if I don't vibe with the song, I could care less about lyrics. That is just the way to do things.

the genre of this mv is satire.. Full of humor but it has also meaning about the boys journey of their life as singers and artists.. You will really find it nonsensical if it is the first time you listen to them.. Most of their songs are related to their life journey, struggles and now that they' re beginning to reach their dreams... So i suggest to pls watch their songs like.. Bazinga, what, go up, wyat, mana, mapa(lyric video), hanggang sa huli, tila luha.. Etc etc..

If you're not familiar with SB19, this is their only satirical MV because they want it to be unique because it's their return single! Your reaction is appropriate since it is exactly what they want.

Got your point. However, take note that the visual part of mv which is wat you actually comment on already may usually have cross relation to the lyrics itself. So its good to know it first or maybe watch it with open mind - he's eating gum from the floor, it could be something related to the lyrics rather than be disgusted without knowing. Nevertheless, glad you enjoyed the video. More power to you!

@@meggy5 since the weather in the Philippines is hot the body produces this "sour" smell in our armpit hence we use deo all rhe time. So people who don't take care of their hygeine is refered to as "maasim" which means sour. In the MV lyrics he said they/them (the haters) are still more sour than him after him working hard all day. So it's a dig to their haters. (Original interpretation CC Angelique)

Is the first time you've seen SB19 Musa? It seems like it. They are really one of the best, most talented groups out there. And this is one of the best songs released this year. You're so confused and puzzled by the mv 🤣 but dont worry, all the Filipino fans will explain everything to you. For example, why they don't have eyebrows, the huge dog, and the shower scene. And that wasn't dandruff, it was gold dust. Gento = gold. They are gold miners. The mv is full of wordplay, humour, and Filipino references. Anyway, you will have huge views for this reaction.

Thank you for your RV to our dear SB19. I feel this is your first time ever to watch any of their MV. Part of the group's charm is the lyrical content of their songs and the positive message it gives. If only you turned on the subtitles, you would have understood. But do it later in your own time, anyways I did see you liked the vibe and music. There are many Filipino elements/humor in this song, that is the reason somethings may not seem usual for you. Gento is pronounced with a hard G like in the word Gold. Incidentally, Gento is a coined word from the word Ganito = like this; and Ginto= gold. But what is Gento..it is themselves, the song metaphorically summarizes their collective experience in a nutshell as they pursued their career goals. Never settle for mediocrity, keep working on it like digging gold to reach ones goals. Hope you find time to listen to more of their songs and always dig deeper from what you see . Their leader, Pablo (the cook in the video) composes most of their songs. And he loves to use wordplay and metaphors in the lyrics. They are even better doing live performances, so worth it to see and experience with their impressive vocals and choreography.❤

#SB19 's GENTO is packed with literary devices. There are allusion , metaphor and so on. It's a perfect study for those who want to sharpen their critical thinking. Also, the message is powerful. It tells us that hard work, perseverance, humility and all good virtues are still non - negotiable and that there are always those who are against anyone who does something extraordinary. They are the haters. But the best way to avenge is to do the best and keep on shining and soaring. Many thanks for the reaction. Hope you will react to Bazinga, Mapa, Hanggang sa Huli, Nyebe , etc and all of SB19's songs.

( explanation from Angelique Joyce Flores ) Hi~ here are some few notes here since the song have a lot of Filipino references: 1. Pablo cooking scene - The ingredients in the pot he's cooking are for the Filipino dish called "nilaga", this is reference to PH proverb, "Pag may tiyaga, may nilaga" which means "hard work has its rewards" 2. Stell shower scene - In PH since the weather is very hot here our body produces this "sour" smell in the armpit (that's why we always use deo) so people who don't take care of their hygiene here are called "maasim" literally "sour" *and when we are kids that plays a lot outside adults will say that we have "KILI-KILI (underarm) POWER" that's why Stell said that he feels the "power". So what it probably mean is no matter how sweaty and sour he smell after all the hardwork he did all day the haters are more "sour" than him/them. 3. Josh rap part - He said that he will not swallow a stone because he's not Darna, Darna is a PH Icon Comics hero, she swallows a "stone" before she transform to her Darna form, so what he's saying is he's no superhero - He said that he's his own mechanic and don't need "Moniko", this is reference to a PH tongue twister: "Minikaniko ni Moniko, ang makina ni Monika" which translate to "Moniko fixed Monika's engine" so he's saying that he doesn't need anyone's help to build himself 4. Justin switch with the dog - This is reference to Filipino term "dogshow" used when you are clowning/making fun of something/someone. It can either be you're making fun of another person or you're making fun of yourself. It's "dogshow" because on literal dog shows, the dogs are being displayed to the public to make "tricks" who else does "tricks"?---- Clowns. 5. SB19 no eyebrows scene - If you raised your eyebrows on someone, you're judging them, right? Or being mean to them. On the MV the lyrics says to burn their brows. In PH there is this saying when you are studying hard, "nagsusunog ng kilay" which means burning their brows because their faces are buried on the book. So they're probably saying that instead of raising your eye brows on someone (judge them) why don't u just burn your brows (study) because the haters are basically dumb. ADDITIONAL EXPLANATION OF "BURNING EYEBROWS" BY JUFEL B ON THE COMMENTS: ---- "For the "nagsusunog nang Kilay" , I got this explaination from my grandmother before. During, early and mid 90s, people in the Philippines mostly used "gasera" (kingki in Ilonggo) or lamps. Sometimes, they use candles if they can afford it. Students who stay up late to study literally burn their eyebrows since they sometimes get near the fire of the lamp." EXTRA: Not a Filipino reference but at the end, the alien scene, they're actually mocking their Alab MV. (watch alab mv again and focus on the last part) This is because during that time they are fully managed by their Korean management SBT which made them do things they don't want to do as a group. In Alab MV, for example, they are promoted as "PPOP" to the public at that time they went viral but the MV literally starts and ended with someone speaking in Korean so PH netizens bashed SB19 about being a KPOP wanna be, no originality, and having no Filipino roots in their music. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR APPRECIATING THEIR MUSIC~

You can't relate to their MV because you don't know Sb19 yet. The MV is a Satire Genre. The MV meant to look weird to people and make fun of it. That's the purpose why the MV looks satire but behind all of that if you dig deep to their lyrics you'll definitely get what they're trying to convey. Gento It's actually a summarization of Sb19's story to Success. "Gento" is a wordplay of Gold and Like this.

first of all, thanks for the reaction! your reactions and the comments were priceless i couldn’t help but 😂😂😂😂😂 anyway, if you can, watch this again but turn on the CC cause there are english subs. the song is in both english and filipino, SB19’s native language. the song GENTO has 3 meanings, in my opinion: 1) GENTO - according to google/wiki is a group of people who are either related genetically or ethnically 2) GENTO - the slang term for ‘Ganito Ito’ which can also be shortened to ‘Ganto’ which means ‘Like This’ (it’ll be shown in the CC) and 3) GENTO - a word play for ‘Ginto’ which is similar sounding (like ‘Ganto’ is pronounced as ‘Gento’ here) and is filipino for ‘Gold’ now for some parts of the video: 1) Pablo who is the one cooking stew with a pot and put in a hunk of wood in and then his entire hand to stir - there’s a filipino saying ‘Kapag may tiyaga, may nilaga’ which basically means ‘Hardwork pays off’; 2) Josh who stepped on gum, took it off the sole of his shoe and ate it - this means that even through all the glamour and flashy clothes and accessories, the reality is it’s ‘marumi’ and ‘kadiri’ or ‘filthy’ and ‘disgusting’ 3) Stell in the shower - filipinos like taking baths; in this case, since the Philippines is a tropical country, it’s hot and humid and will definitely require frequent showers in order to stay fresh and good smelling 😅 4) Justin with the dog inspecting a colony of termites - his verse just says that those who work hard usually stay silent but when provoked or riled up they can get pretty noisy too; also that he doesn’t want any pests in his house - a call out to their haters 5) Ken with the snake - a reference to the great Kobe Bryant and his Mamba Mentality; his verse speaks about working hard all day, everyday 6) Josh with the backhoe - his rap speaks about him not needing anything to become a superhuman (Darna is a filipino superhero who swallows a stone to transform into a filipino wonder woman) and that he can be his own mechanic in the machine that is his life 7) Pablo’s fast rap speaks about all the hard work, the blood, sweat and tears they’ve shed are no easy feats and that behind all that is a pain that they treasure and that even mephisto will fold if he goes into beast mode 8) Justin and the dog switching places - this can be interpreted as a them being dependent on their fans in a way, because while they are free to be creative and do any kind of style that they want, it is their fans’ support that they ultimately need in order to be able to continue to do the things that they do (there might be other interpretations out there, and this is just my take) 9) Stell in the bathrobe and the other 4 without eyebrows - another filipino saying ‘magsunog ka ng kilay’ translates to ‘burn your eyebrows’; in his verse he’s saying that you have to do your research first before passing judgement and for those who arch their eyebrows, they should be ‘burned’ so that they can repent for making hasty judgements/assumptions SB19 is a boy group from the Philippines with 5 members; they debuted in 2018 with the song ‘Tilaluha’ (tea-lah-loo-ha) which translates to ‘Stop Crying’. they currently have 12 singles, 2 EPs and 1 full studio album (their upcoming EP release on June 9 included)

I hope your viewers in your live chat watch this video again.. The mv is humorous but the context is astonishing from the mv itself to the lyrics to the performers.. they may have acted weird in the video coz they wanna entertain but this song, if you understand really well, you’ll get the message.. Filipino humour? But yeah, these guys are really funny for real..

The song is packed with metaphorical statements. It expresses self-assurance, confidence, and perseverance. It conveys staying true to oneself, but not settling in mediocrity. Likewise, it emphasizes alertness in surrounding and not letting negativity and criticism affect you. The true notion of strength lies in calmness and the readiness to make noise when necessary. GENTO means like this and GINTO means gold, these terms represent rarity. It implies that achieving greatness is not instant, like playing BINGO and preparing a BENTO (Japanese-style packed meal) long process is a prerequisite. And pushing beyond your limits is required to achieve greatness and exceed expectations. One must have an unfaltering determination to find their own “GENTO”. (SB19, emphasizes how they persevere and achieve what they have now). Conformity to societal expectations is also implied in this song. They are telling us that this is what, and who, we are (GENTO kami). We reject to conform societal expectations. The song also implies the journey of overcoming hardships, harsh criticism, and the strength gained from those experiences. Likewise, it is encouraging the listeners to seek knowledge, dig deeper, and not settle for the ordinary. This song is an ode to ordinary folk to persevere, strive toward their goal and not settle for less than their version of “GENTO”.

THERE'S SO MUCH MEANING BEHIND THE MV THAT YOU CANNOT COMPREHEND WITH JUST ONE WATCH SO WE UNDERSTAND YOU IF YOU THINK IT'S WEIRD SINCE SOME OF THE LYRICS ARE FILIPINO IDIOMS,WORDPLAY AND IN METAPHOR. SB19'S ARE REALLY SMART, THIS IS THEIR FIRST SATIRICAL GENRE MV AND I'M GLAD IT MADE YOU LAUGH

It's "satire" full of jokes that has a deeper meaning "metaphorically".. I understand your reaction, esp. the GENTO is also full of WORD PLAYS that mostly Filipino gets and some foreigners may not... Thanks for reacting to our P-POP KINGS in PH..

Hahaha yes, I understand the confusion! 🤣 The last bit has ALIENS and BURIED GOLD in a glass case housing an ant COLONY in an ALIEN MUSEUM along with many FOREIGN TREASURES. When I say "COLONIZATION" and "RACIAL EXPLOITATION", then I'm very sure you would already understand the picture. The whole MV is satire, meant to symbolize uncomfortable truths about the glamour & glitter of fame & success, and the irony that the journey to get there requires you to work hard and be patient, just like how miners don't mind becoming dirty just so they could do an honest job mining for gold. Like the guy in Gucci, saying he might look fancy on-screen but he's still eating like a poor man (to the point where he doesn't spare a used bubble gum that he'd already stepped on). A lot of these "imagery" also are rooted from Filipino idioms and references, which would take a 5-paper essay to explain.

love the bubble gum explanation! what about the hand in soup thing? im still confused about that T_T all i keep thinking about is "let him cook"
@maxb6570
@maxb6570 Жыл бұрын
@@vetuslamia8674 There might be a better explanation for the hand in the soup thing but let me try. There's a Filipino saying "kung may tiyaga, may nilaga" (Nilaga is a well-known Filipino dish/soup) which loosely translates to hard work pays off. Pablo, in the mv, is seen cooking nilaga with his bare hand. This represents his role as the group's primary songwriter. He once said (non-verbatim) that he likes to cook beats and melodies. Pablo is also known as very hardworking. He's the guy who comes to work early and stays late. The block of wood also has significance.
@xeanluxcrille6847
@xeanluxcrille6847 Жыл бұрын
@@vetuslamia8674 it references a Filipino proverb: "Kapag may tiyaga may nilaga." (When there's patience/diligence, there's "nilaga".) It has the same idea as "You reap what you sow," but in a positive rewarding nuance. Nilaga is a native Filipino soup dish which used to be a luxury back in the day (well, not too much of a luxury, but you know, it's a universal favorite). The ingredients you see in the MV are the standard ingredients for nilaga. The soup scene means when there's patience, diligence and effort (in other words, if you work hard), then you'll reap rewards. But the guy puts BURNT FIREWOOD in it (presumably to heat it faster, in other words he's rushing it) and then he tasted it. It doesn't take a genius to know that the dish won't taste good (although there ARE some native Filipino dishes in the provinces that taste good with that kind of cooking, but I digress). Now the whole scene means that if you rush things, no matter how much you work hard, the "nilaga" won't taste good--meaning you cannot rush success. The part about the burnt firewood is my own take, but the nilaga part is accurate. I just thought that the burnt firewood means that way because they're talking about hard work and diligence the whole song anyways.
