Don’t get confused. It’s just pure entertainment, this showed a lot about SB19’s sense of humor. Not scripted. It’s a showcase of who they really are in real life. And it’s a re enactment of what’s happening inside a Philippine classroom. The fun side of it. Classroom officers are elected. That’s from first grade to HS. President, VP, secretary, treasurer, Sargent at Arms, Muse and her escort. We elect them and give them the power to govern the whole class and make decisions on behalf of everyone. If there’s trouble in the class, or if something goes wrong, yes, that means the class officers are automatically in trouble, too. You just saw a fraction of Filipino culture, Lydia. That’s why the tagline “It’s more fun in the Philippines” is definitely a big fact! 😉

So true! Students in the Philippines are always excited for the first day of school. It's so fun! I must say, Fililinos got the most fun first day of school where you'll get tired of introducing yourself again and again in every subject because of teacher swapping. Ahhh i missed school.

This episode 1, represent the scenario inside the classroom on the first day of class in the Philippines. -Usually the teacher ask student to introduce their self (getting to known strategy) -selecting Classroom officers -Rules and regulations (one of the ex. No eating inside the classroom specially when the teacher are there and discussing the lesson) But being a Filipino we find ways to eat inside the class room secretly :) -last but not the least " class room cleaners" student who assigned to clean the classroom after class.

The PRESIDENT, VP, SECRETARY, TREASURER, SGT. AT ARMS. things are very common in every schools here in the Philippines. President's job is to manage the whole class when the teacher is not around. The VP's job is... just to be with the president, i think😂 Secretary's job is to help the teacher in writing the lectures on the board. Treasurer is the one who collects the money if there's any contributions. SGT AT ARMS is the Mediator... And the one who would report to the teacher when the trouble happens.

This is how the Philippine Education is. Its not allowed to eat in class especially when the teacher is teaching and they turned it into a funny challenge of tricking the teacher and not getting caught. Students always clean after class in the Phil thus the punishment for not finishing the food is cleanup

It's very Filipino humor. Everything. It's typical Filipino comedy. It is uniquely and entirely Filipino rooted kind of comedy. Only Filipinos can understand and relate to the intricacies, subtleness, the loudness, the dialogue, the jokes and what not. Your reaction and confusion is totally understandable. Don't worry, you're okay. It's just that there are things like this that are meant only towards a certain audience at times and Filipinos watching this are laughing hard, for sure. Same thing goes with Korean and Japanese comedy etc.

We understand your confusion ate Lydia. Even I am Filipino, I was also confused when their class started but they were all secretly eating even when they were warned by the teacher. It was in the later part of the video that I understood that they were challenged to finish their food without getting caught since it happens a lot in Filipino class setting. This might be confusing to Westerners but I am pretty much sure that South Asians and Southeast Asians can relate. But this episode is dedicated to real-life happenings on first day of classes in the Philippines, ate Lydia. The upcoming episodes for School Buddies would be more interesting for sure.

You might get confused Lydia during the selection of their officers, the teacher told them to call him KUYA ( older brother) that was actually a parody of the reality show BIG BROTHER. we have here PINOY BIG BROTHER where in the housemates give points to other housemates that will be nominated for elimination. They're doing real math, Lydia... Our boys are naturally hilarious, cracking themselves up at their own humor (looks like they came up with their own impromptu script). You got lost somewhere there, but it's okay; they're just being silly while staying in character. What they did is actually the way we starts school/first classes here, we introduce ourselves and then elect for the officers of the class. I enjoyed it a lot coz they're so hilarious😆 It's alright if you got confused because you're not from the Philippines and you wouldn't get the whole context and humor :)) I'm glad that you watched it though. It's very confusing coz I think this was somehow referenced to a show in the Philippines called "Goin' bulilit". The translations are also a bit confusing. Philippine Educational system is very different compare to others as well. It's normal for reactors outside the country to be confused. I wonder if the following episode will tackle subjects in the Philippines like English, MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health), etc.

Some references that you (and other fans) may have missed, lydia! I think for this episode they did math because sir Robi is part of a filipino educational series that teaches kids to do math (my theory is that if ever they will include alamat in this collab series, they may discuss about 'wika' or language subject since that's kinda alamat's specialty). The part where he said to call him 'kuya'/big brother is a reference to the pinoy reality show called 'pinoy big brother' where kuya is this omnipresent, omniscient person that owns the house (the point system is a reference to how they vote in the mentioned show, nominating to evict from the house, etc.) Pablo's rap also includes a very pinoy reference, wherein olpab kinda sounds like 'hold up', wherein a robber will tell you to raise your hands, holding one at gunpoint/knifepoint while they steal your belongings. Thus, he tells them to put their hands up in the air (double meaning. Very witty, i must say) 🤣 The others already mentioned about the Filipino culture of electing the student body, the introduction, the sneaking food during class, and the cleaners culture. Hope this helps clarify things, lydia! It's really something new since they're introducing filipino culture to the world. Thanks for this vid!

The first part after their self introduction was the election of class officers. And the part after recess, which was their lesson proper, the class rule was not to eat in class since they should've had their lunch already. So the objective was they shouldn't be caught eating in class by the teacher. That's why they were trying to have a bite everytime the teacher was facing the board. They were distracting him and it was really funny hahaha especially ken, he was so talkative here 😁😁😁

I think this is just a part of their content aside from their show break? Eating is not allowed during class period. Also, there is student council election done usually at the start of classes per academic year. This is how it is in Philippine schools. I just realized this is probably not the same in other countries, hence your confused reaction.

Pre-pandemic, our school starts from June to March, then 2 months of summer vacation (April-May). Our classes starts differently from other countries that usually starts on August or September. But the Department of Education (Government) already had plans to move it to August like how most countries do. When Pandemic happened (March 2020), there was a sudden shift from face to face to online classes. Since it was so sudden, the schools need longer time to commit to new normal so the next academic year was moved to start on August 2020 instead of June 2020. Why did they upload School Buddies now?: -We usually have 2 weeks of vacation for the holidays during Mid December to Early January. But when the classes (supposedly face-to-face classes) is about to start, COVID19 positivity rate went high (almost a vertical graph). So most schools extended the holiday break. *And I think SB19 and the team are just making us busy with School Buddies Series because they are preparing for something big.*

Unfortunately, Yes Lydia you're correct, some humours were funnier in the local dialect. And some commenters are correct, the goal is to finish their food before the end of the class while keeping it secret from Robi. The mechanics could have been explained so International fans/New to this kind of show inspired by KPOP could have been understood better. (i also got confused at first since i didnt know the mechanics)

They were just being funny and the whole thing was not supposed to be taken seriously. Especially not with Robi Domingo as a guest. Robi is an actual intellectual who's made a career out of hosting. He's known for being funny, too. The first part was the class elections supposedly, something Filipino students are used to. That's something that we adopted from the Americans. I'm hazarding a guess that you're familiar with American shows and movies. So you probably know from them that they elect class officers and student government officers in the US. Anyhoo, Robi is one of the hosts of Pinoy Big Brother. So when, for instance, Justin says " I give two points to....", it's like the dreaded nominations where the "worst" housemates of the week are nominated, and the audience vote who to save and who to evict. A little kind of parody. As for the rest of the video, they just did a whole funny skit or scenario: The students try to break the rules (like eating while in class) while the teacher is not looking. The goal was to be funny and laugh and enjoy.
