I would say Tanya got it ❤❤❤the message of WHAT it’s all about being proud of who you are, where you are raised, your own culture, your own uniqueness, proud to raise your own flag without using bullets only bars that will hit your heart. WHAT song and the MV is a marathon you are like watching a movie a series and it’s all mixed of different Genres hip hop, EDM, POP and satire. It might not be some person’s cup of tea because how the sound was engineered and created w/c is so unique, but this song will always remind us who we really are it doesn’t have to be in particular as Filipino but as a unique individual that brought difference to the world. It's true! A'TIN gave up the fan chants. You know what's funny? Their 1st performance after COVID, all of us were super excited coz we missed them so much. We came prepared, we practiced the fan chants, and the fandom even distributed flyers about those fan chants so no one mess up, but lo and behold they gave a different spin to their already amazing songs. This song meant so many things for the boys. This is where the boys have more freedom with the song, Pablo with the lyrics and producing, Stell with the choreography, Justin as the creative director and Ken and Josh as the members who help and support them with their ideas and inputs. "What" is a representation of the group that Pablo wrote in order to inspire people.. in their "The Making of" vlog series, he explained that we should be proud of what we are and that even though the things we can do is not the best there is, we should love and give our best to show the true potential.. and it shows through the music video, where it shows Pablo's ingenuity of the words and line distribution, Stell's amazing choreography, Justin's creativity in their MV, Ken's otherworldly deep voice and Josh's rap prowess.. each of them gave their best in their own craft, and the result is something as amazing and captivating... More than a patriotic song as it may be interpreted, Pablo said that "watawat" (literally means flag but Pablo used it symbolically as " yourself ") he said it was more of being proud of your skills, abilities and who you are even if you feel that the world is full of more talented/skilled people - raise your own flag is like uplift oneself. The line "di na kailangan ng bala para i-angat ang Bandera directly translates to bullets are not needed to raise ones flag...but figuratively it means criticizing/putting down on others isnt needed to build oneself ( and as the song goes to simply show what you got whether someone does it better..be proud of oneself) The line "Ama salamat ikaw ang aking agimat" ..the word ama in English means father but in the song Ama is God the Father....salamat means thank you ..agimat means amulet but in the song it means source of power...as in God the Father is their source of power. 😊

Fan fact . SB19 Stell and Josh personally meet BTS way back in 2014 at Seoul, Korea. Stell and Josh were still a part of a group called SE-Eon they covered bts song danger . The song is basically about believing in who you are and standing up for what you believe in, whatever it may be, and not having to resort to violence in order to raise your flag proudly. So, you're not entirely wrong if you take it as patriotic. The video shows a montage of what each member believes in and the individual and collective "flags" they choose to raise.

ShowBT hit the jackpot on these 5 members but after Tatang Robin left bcoz of the pandemic, that guy CK who took over them treated them very badly like sh-t!!! These guys are golden! by far this was my fave song and MV of SB19, because all the efforts came from the boys, Pablo- Composer/Lyricist Stell- Choreography Justin- Creative Director of the Music Video Even the flags used in the MV was hand painted by the boys, they were so hands-on on this song and MV.. LOVE IT!!!!!

I agree with Tanya! It's better to get into a reaction of a song/MV blindly. I personally enjoy a reactor's most authentic, raw and honest reaction, esp with SB19 stuff bec their songs are always meaningful and their more recent MV's (where they personally creatively direct) are always creative and inspiring. So when I recommend videos for them to react I try not to give any spoilers, which I myself do not like when I'm watching an MV/listening to a song for the first time. What? has a 5-video docu-series called "What?: The Making Film" on their channel, if you want to get to see the behind-the-scenes of the song production, MV production, etc. and see how they create their craft. The song was composed by Pablo (and produced by Simon Servida), the dance was mainly choreographed by Stell (assisted by Tank Baustista), and the MV's creative director was Justin. The song is the first track from their EP, Pagsibol, and is also their first all-Filipino-produced music and MV.
