sb, to get emeralds, its so much quicker to mine sand, smelt it into glass, and then turn it into glass panes which you can then trade with a level 2 cartographer for so many more emeralds than sticks.

no need to even get sand. Librarians sell 4 glass for one emerald, trade like 3 at a time and make them into 32 panes. then sell those panes to a cured cartographer for 1 emerald per pane
