like 15 years later and I only just realized that Coach Z using the green-stained damp towel to clean up "microwave lasagna stains" in DNA Evidence was a callback to this scene

This cartoon was how I discovered Homestar Runner. There was this Super Mario World ROM hack that had a bonus area with "What the pfargtl?" spelled in coins (which isn't clever level design at all, by the way). I saw a let's player play it, and when he got to this part, he was confused as to what that meant. It wasn't until people in the comments pointed out that it was a reference to this cartoon. I was like, 12 when this all happened, by the way.

I know exactly what you're talking about! It was Proton Jon who made that video. I already knew about Homestar before seeing that ROM hack, so I understood the reference immediately.

ebyam93, you do realize that plagiarism and copyright infringement are different, right? Plagiarism is when you use the ideas or words of another without giving credit, and you avoid plagiarism by simply giving credit to the original creator. Copyright infringement, on the other hand, is when you copy or publicly display another's work without their permission. Saying you don't own it, don't have the rights to it, didn't create it, and don't intend infringement are all very nice, but they don't change the fact that you don't have permission from the owner to post the material on KZbin. It's like joyriding in your neighbor's car: you freely admit it isn't yours, but you're still breaking the law just by using the car without the owner's permission. In short, it's illegal for you to post this video on KZbin without permission from the folks at homestarrunner.com, even if you give them full credit for creating it. Side note: When you quote or reference an excerpt from a book in a paper for your English class, you probably don't get the author's permission. But it turns out you don't actually need permission, because under those circumstances, your use of that material or idea falls under "fair use," and so it's not copyright infringement. The reason you give the author credit is to avoid plagiarism. Sorry for getting on my soapbox.

I thought about waiting 2 more years before replying to this to make the point about criticizing people for things they did a decade previous, but what the heck. This video was 6 years old when you made this post, and the guy had already ended his channel for literally all 6 of them by the time you got around to climbing onto this soapbox.
