and then there was Roger Gracie who used bjj as a martial art to win all those world championships.

No it's not... these are core principles that apply to sport, art, and combat BJJ. The differences are identified by the rules and purpose ... sport bjj has rules... there are no rules in love (art) and war (combat)... purpose is what separates the latter pair. But base, posture, connection, and pressure are necessary concepts for all forms of BJJ except the Bullshito versions... I call it BSJJ when I see it. Luckily I've only ever seen it online.

@@binaryglitch64 BJJ as martial Art = minimum Physical effort (strength,flexibility,etc...) Maximum Result ; BJJ as sport ,you see the same appearences of Techniques ,moves,etc... But is applied with Lots of Physical Help ; I am not talking about Rules and type of competition here ! Base , Posture , connection in IBJJF competitions , or in Submission Grappling ? I don't think so or you wouldn't be here .

@@angel-rq4fz You didn't complete your sentences such that I'm unsure what your asking ... if your asking if I practice BJJ, then yes... if your asking if I play in competition BJJ, I have... a couple few times lol ... but no, I'm not a sports BJJ guy, does that effect my knowledge base in what the differences are? Yes, it directly means I don't know as much about it as guys who do compete... but still I hold my stance that these are fundamentals for all BJJ... it's biomechanics and physics. But if you'd like to enlighten me otherwise, than by all means... give me an example where base doesn't matter because of the type of BJJ being done... or posture or any of these principles.

this is what train every single session at Kama Jiu Jitsu, Irvine. KJJ is part of Rickson Gracie Team, btw.

Matt Thornton got his blue belt from Rickson. Rickson is still a huge influence on Matt.

Also, notice how much deeper Glenn's hook was with better body connection 5:55 vs before. His foot actually reached the mat that time.

A good tip would be to use them bridging to push your punch hand deep to the ground and just keep a tight grip in the off hand

What's the difference between Carlson Gracie bjj and others like Rickson Gracie?
@Burybjj5 жыл бұрын
Here are a few quick ones; Rickson's use of what Matt Thornton labelled 'the isolation method', Rickson's concepts on connection and breathing.

If you're using your weight to finished the choke then won't that effect your base and allow your opponent to toss you forward?
@NaruIchiLuffy5 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but I think almost all chokes from the mount will at some point of their execution leave you a little vulnerable to being unbalanced. However, if you do all the prior steps connecting with heavy knees, feet tucked, tail-in and not leaving space in the choke, you stand a better chance of submitting your opponent or at the very least not being completely swept off the dominant position.
@MachoMaster5 жыл бұрын
No, because by having a proper posture (in this case of the mount, having your weight in your squeezed knees and your hips far away from opponent's body) - you deny your opponent the "connection" element and his bridging will barely have an effect. It's all connected: the game is about you trying to achieve base/posture/connection/pressure and about trying to deny your opponent of achieving the same goals.
