The position of a "rapper" is usually a "filler" position. As an SM stan for years, I'm aware that this position is given to those who don't have a position aka not the main vocal and not the main dancer. If you aren't good at singing or dancing, you automatically become a rapper even though you're not good at rapping either. But in this case, it's not that. Taeyong and Mark proved themselves that their position as a rapper was given to them not because they aren't the best in singing or dancing but because THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY FULLY CAPABLE OF WRITING AND SPITTING FIRE RAPS. These two talented kids broke SM's stereotype of rappers. Kudos to these two! They are SM's gold! P.S. I'm laughing at Jaehyun. He looks awkward. Hahaha. He just sang the intro and then stood awkwardly as TY and Mark spit raps at each other.

If the main dancer can't sing, they will be automatically pushed into the rap line as well, like HyoYeon or Kai used to be, but they improved, so yeah, they sing now. Some of them , as you say, no sing no dance, but they have visuals, will get into a group as main visual and lead rappers, Sehun and Yoona, obviously. The rest, mostly MAIN rapper, like Chanyeol or Key, Minho have ability to sing well, but their voice suits being a rapper, so Sm turned them to be a rapper and usually contribute singing lines also. Especially Chanyeol, he was trained to be a band member, he has vocal skills, but his deep on earth tone of voice make Sm choose him as a main rapper of EXO along with Kris and Tao. And you know, they left, CY learns by himself how to compose rap, deliver, flow while being a member of EXO, most of rap parts in EXO song is composed by CY who is considered a decent rapper, I mean a real one, not just a idol rapper read the available lyrics. For Mark and Taeyong, they were determined to be a rapper right in the first row, right at the beginning, so they're fireee. I mean if SM wants, having lit rappers is not hard, but they dont want it until now. I think NCT is supposed to be a Hiphop group while the rest of SM artists are kinda Pop, they just need some rap break to make it interesting. That makes sense.

Pikodin the rapper position isnt always filler. there are some talented, true rappers out here, and people need to stop looking at it as fillers for those. also, for some members they may have ventured with vocals but rapping fit them better, or vice versa. then theres some individuals who were always rappers. people need to stop doubting true rappers talent, and hard work as lyricists just because they are in a group. being apart of a group does not take away ones talent, and people that say otherwise id tell them to their face its bull. like the true rappers have proved time and time again that being in a group they are still themselves, as are everyone else in the group. if the talent is there, its there end of i dont get why people have false judgments. another thing i wish sm or any company doesnt just put someone as a rapper without getting to know their talents

I didn't generalize that in KPOP fandom, the rapper position is a filler position. The basis of my comment was SM. You see, I'm an SM stan for years so I know what I'm talking about. I can't say the same about idols who hold rapper position in their respective groups under another company because I'm not in such position since I rarely listen to them. Just like what is said on the first reply on my comment, most SM rappers aren't rappers since the very beginning. Usually, main dancers or faces of the group automatically become the group's rappers. Examples are Irene from RV, Hyoyeon from SNSD, Minho from SHINee, etc. It's tradition. Really. And as time goes by, these people improve on the field SM assigned to them. Besides, SM isn't really strict when it comes to the field of rapping because SM genre doesn't revolve on rapping. SM's strong points are brilliant vocals and synchronization. Back to my point, I was saying Taeyong and Mark broke that SM stereotype because they've been rappers since the very beginning. That's just it. NCT is not SM's stereotype group after all. (Just like in volleyball, a Libero becomes a Libero not because he's short. It's because he receives the best. That's just it.) So let me apologize if I struck a nerve there. It wasn't my intention. To be honest, I think Mark's style and rapping style fits in more with NCT U and NCT 127, you know, the hip-hop/trap, and R&B kind of styles, instead of dance-pop, fresh, and cute (even though he is young and cute) kind of style like NCT Dream. He is basically in 3 units of NCT group.

Until they went solos and starts doing live shows and then we were all amazed! not really true about suju (i can't say about snsd because when they debuted i was not really into kpop anymore [and look who's here again]). i remember their debut and they did good (and you can't say that that was "visual-wise"). i mean, sm put them almost immediately to do entertainment and they were more like funny idols, different from tvxq back then. ok, suju's songs and conceits in the first year weren't good, but everyone liked them because they were really good and charismatic. sm is the best at training their idols. that rumor that sm idols are not talented came from all the haters.

Sun Light I always thought that TY was a bad rapper ( just a Sehun-like ) but this music give me chills , he is excellent here and the NTC 127 album made me realize that he was very good but Mark still better for me ( in terms of age,rapidity) and both of them have a different but likable 'flow'
