SBS Transit’s first MAN A95 (Lion’s City DD Facelift) was launched on Bus Service 76 today, 9 September 2017. Registered as SG5835M, it is the first public bus in Singapore to be equipped with an automatic wheelchair ramp - Masats RT1 Dual Telescopic Ramp.
[Update: May 2021] The Land Transport Authority revealed that the six-month trial (September 2017 to March 2018) was unsuccessful, and decided not to replace the manual ramps with automated ones. SG5835M retained its automatic ramp after the trial.

Two points: 1. Bode didn't have to get the doors to move when they deploy their auto ramp...even a decade ago (in Perth). 2. If the driver has to get out of his cabin anyway to flip the switch at the exit door, then what is the point of having an auto ramp?

As this bus was the first to be launched with a automatic wheelchair ramp, commuters may not be aware about the movement of the ramp, therefore, the bus captain has to get out of the driver's cabin to make sure that commuters are aware that the ramp is in movement. Do note that this is a evaluation of automatic ramps by the Land Transport Authority. Future buses may be installed with such ramps if the evaluation is successful. We can also expect future buses to have a button in the driver's cabin for the ramp if they are installed in them. The ramp with also go through a more regular maintenance for the manual ones. Furthermore, the sole B8L demonstrator is also installed with one too!

The b8l ramp was more logical since the door won't need to pop out for the ramp to extend or retract

Nothing beats the good old manual ramp. Cost and maintenance would be an issue for this. And since the driver has to monitor the ramp anyway, might as well just use the manual one. A lot more quicker too when its done manually. Somewhat glad this trial was unsuccessful. Its just not really practical imo.

Honestly manual ramps can be deployed faster and has at most 1% failure rate because the only thing that could affect wheelchair ramp operation would be the hinge. Automatic ramps contain dozens of parts which would be more harder and sophisticated to maintain. LTA's probably just evaluating automated ramps.

Manual Ramp is better. Automatic ramp is suppose to have a button into the dashboard console which saves time.

Automatic ramp saves time compared to a manual ramp where the driver has to crotch and fold in.

Quite true if driver has to get out of cabin no point having auto ramp.It will spoil easily also. Furthermore the driver has to help to push manual wheelchair... .

They should still have the manual ramp along with the automatic ramp, just in case automatic ramp malfunctions and is unable to work. So people can still board/exit the bus.

Why can’t the switch be placed at near the driver? I don’t see how difficult is it to route the switch to where the driver is sitting

@@lauchewkhay2774 Certainly not the case, drivers have to familiarise themselves of the different functions available and how it works on a specific bus, as well as procedures of troubleshooting different types of issues in the event.

Ever wondered what the little wheelchair circle on the outside of wheelchair buses are for? They light up when the wheelchair bell is pressed, the circle itself also acts as a wheelchair bell so when pressed from the outside it triggers the wheelchair bell Yea i know these cus i pressed it multiple times as a kid and triggered the driver once lool

Your ramps are better the ones that fold on the french companies hurt me today.I was injured today by being attacked on bus and the bus driver in owen sound caused my walker to be be trapped under ramp and injured me he also allowed other passenger who was violent screaming abuse and she made threats and she committed assault battery also thr french company that owns the buses and the drivers in owen sound are a danger

Traffic jam, Drive slow, Time delay Open Stroller, WheelChair Onboard... This are Comman Thing that Passanger always complain to LTA . Now LTA one to add one Auto Ramp... Wah Piang ehhh.. ik because i see the captain had to do all this thing on him/herself...
