Commenting on the last section, I'm one of those guys who doesn't play, but loves watching SC2 (Ok, I played the campaign, but that doesn't really count). I started watching SC2 in 2011 and watch every major tournament since then. To some degree I understand what is happening in a game, even without commentators pointing it out. I watched other esports, but I haven't found one that is as friendly to viewers who don't actively play as SC2, including Stormgate, so I really, really hope the big esport tournaments keep SC2, I don't see myself watching anything else - but if that doesn't happen, you can bet I'll be there for smaller community tournaments. Big shoutout to those who organise them, like Zombiegrub, Wardi, Craky Ducklings and Take!

Maru has ranked 1st or 2nd in 5 out of 7 premier tournaments this year, not counting Onsyde winning WTL in January. He will do great!

Awesome another episode pre EWC :). I have watched a minute because wanted to say that great that you managed! :)

I feel wardi here. When I tell people I play sc2 and they know what it is I get hyped lol. Its not a new game anymore but the fanbase is truly dedicated. Not having it around in esports is gonna be weird.

One thing re: Reynor's practice is that this time he does not have Lambo as a coach. If past is prologue, this could matter quite a bit.

My predicted upset is Gumiho > Dark. Gumi got the best bracket he could've asked for. His BIGGEST weakness is TvP and he avoided all of them and he's taken multiple games off of Serral in grand finals
@ZombieGrub2 ай бұрын
That's a solid choice for an upset honestly. Good reasoning.

I just want to watch more serral games. All the formats this year have made serral games few and far between, not just this one. It feels like serral never has to show all his prep.

It is definitely an issue with the formats

One thing I would add to the convo about the tournaments. WTL is fun and I like to watch it, but lets face. It doesn't pay out much especially on the amount of time it takes. If all the big events go away except one EWC per year, how well will that ecosystem sustain pro players. That situation would likely lead to amateur play, ie. not bad play but play where people do it as a side to a real job. I think the current level of money available is making it hard to sustain pros unless you are top15 or 20 in world and can place high on few higher paying tournaments.

Cant get into Stormgate. Struggle with that game. Battle aces would be interesting with better maps, and maybe a slight change on the spectator view, so we see the units difference. It look to much like blobs.

It's not ironic at all to gush over Serral for his offline Bo7 finals performance while making fun of Artosis for his Rogue GOAT pick (Rogue has a ridiculous, unrivaled 13-1 offline Bo7 finals record).
@ZombieGrub2 ай бұрын
It's also not the only data that points to Serral being the GOAT and we never said as such. I said something along the lines of "the more data found the more it proves it" and referenced a reddit post that broke down more stats.
@rahawala2 ай бұрын
@@ZombieGrub I'm not really trying to have a GOAT debate in the YT comments (Serral is a great GOAT pick). I'm just pointing out that it's ironic that you made fun of Artosis for his Rogue pick while gushing over Serral's offline bo7 record when Rogue's 13-1 offline bo7 record is literally one of the most legendary accomplishments in all of esports. Doesn't make Rogue the GOAT of course. Does make people who can't even acknowledge this sound kinda cringe.
@rahawala2 ай бұрын
@@ZombieGrub p.s. I think commentators who think greatness can be reduced to data, or think that any depiction of the stats is neutral or objective, would do well to look at greatness in other sports and games. Muhammad Ali is not "The Greatest" because of the data (he has too many losses compared to other boxers). Phil Ivey is not the poker GOAT because of his winnings (he's not even in the top 10), or even because he is the "best" poker player (he isn't). MJ is not the basketball GOAT because of his stats (LeBron has him beat there). I think maybe the SC2 scene is a bit too insular and short-lived to have the wider and deeper perspectives that some of these other games and sports have. Again, doesn't mean Serral isn't the GOAT. Does mean maybe a bit more is needed than an algorithm to tell you who your GOAT is.

57:00 I love Reynor and cheer for him literally every game AND a huge fan of Steadfast, but claiming Reynor's shown us the highest level of zerg ever is just so, so innacurate and unfair to other top zergs who have overall outperformed Reynor. Reynor is a great player, has been an incredible player, but he won G8 off the back of his zvt in an extremely linear, narrow playoffs vs Byun, clem, and Cure. He lost vs classic in the round robin stage and narrowly won 2-1 the other two non-zvt matches (showtime and solar). In other words, he only lost 1 game vs terran the whole tournament and faced exclusively terran in the playoffs... He's amazing, but showing the peak of all zerg play??? Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
