Great video...I understand your frustration...my buddie had the Scag chute blocker on his mower and he disliked it for the same reasons that you mentioned. After seeing his disappointment with it I decided to go with the "Grass Flap" brand to go on my Scag walkbehind mower...after using it for the entire past season I have been very pleased. I can't think of any complaints or concerns with it. I would highly recommend it if you ever decided to replace the Scag blocker.

My dixie chopper stryker came with the ocdc built in along with the flap. I removed the flap though. I don't see why other mower manufacturers don't just have it built in from factory.

I don't have a scag and so mine is different but could you not just add a heavy chunk of metal or maybe just a spring on to the arm that would last a lot longer?

We have the same system on our cheetah, I just took a saw zaw and cut the flap even with the metal flap. This way it is as open as it can be and still functions fine

I'd bet you add a lever and a Coil Spring on a adjustable Eye bot 🤔

Ahh man thats the reason i did not go with the oem ocdc. I have Qwikchutes on both of my v rides and cant speak high enough for them. They work flawlessly! They actually have 3 positions, open, half open, and closed which works great for mulching leaves. The customers service on the Qwikchute is great also. They are a little pricey though at about $350 shipped but like I said well worth it. Get one Kevin, you will love it. Plus you could always sell the oem ocdc on craigslist, ebay, or facebook and make back most of you funds. Good luck bud!!

Has anyone tried swapping the shoot blocker, (orange door) lever with the black rubber shoot shroud with some combination of linkage and spring. This would reverse the operation where open would be blocker closed and closed would be blocker open. Keep in mind I do not own or have access to a Scag, just your video to base my thought on. the thought is it would give you more leverage as the top / shroud bar is longer and may be enough to hold the blocker door open. I just got an ocdc for my cat2. I see the problem everyone is talking about. Although I don’t really care about flap. If anything I’ve always kept mine on and put a rope on it. My 2cents on mods. I’m going to try to add a toolbox gas shock somewhere to hardware.

We just install that OCDC on a v-ride II 52 in, did you put the turbo baffle back on? The instructions are sort of confusing.

I have that same chute blocker on my vride and am considering cutting the flap but I think I'll wait and try your method in the spring. Thanks for making this video and let me know if that bungee cord thing will work. I've thought about just buying a grass flap for mine and being done with it but since I paid 359 for this chute blocker I'm going to try a few things first for sure.

But the issue I'm having with mine is when the the door is shut and if I hit a bump it opens and I don't know where to adjust it at

Know what gets in the way? A $250 deductible on your insurance because you took your chute guard off! I can leave mine on and still have the OCDC go up and down no issues. Just giving you a hard time bro! Fun video!

I Cut the plastic right where steel ends. That way the plastic flap is at same length as OCDC and it will work as it should have from first place. Also scag made it to taking baffle off that is used to help mulch up grass before it leaves the deck. Scag killed this OCDC.

Man, I dropped over $300 for a stupid scag ocdc last summer for my 52" vride and I hate it for this very reason. I should've stuck with QuikChute. Let us know what works!

Get a rubber bungee cord. The bungee you chose was pretty tiny for the weight.

I hope you figure something out, I made my own chute blocker for about $10 . I can leave it open about 1/3rd, full open or close to mulch. I have a Toro grandstand. It works great.

They really didn’t hold up for very long. I ended up switching it out for a GrassFlap and accepted the loss on the SCAG ocdc

Also remember that when they design this codes for most cities require the chute to be on , and this is an OEM product from SCAG which requires the chute to be on.

yep, the spring occured to me when i saw the bungee. something the right length and tension, & you might want to install a sturdy eye hook on the deck to hook the bottom end instead of stretching it all the way down to where that bungee is bolted on. as my graphic design instructor used to say back in the day, "you're all around a good solution." thanks for sharing, brother.
