I don't think this video is meant to be taken literally, I think his wife is already dead. But just because someone is dead that doesn't mean they disappear from our minds or hearts. The husband seeks the comfort and company of "someone like you and all you know and how you speak", the companionship he had with his wife when she was alive. But, even though she wouldn't hate him for doing it and she would understand (as shown by her stroking his head in the car), he still feels like he's cheated on her by going into the brothel and destroying the sanctity of their marriage. Afterwards, his action opens the floodgates (the metaphorical flooding of his home and distruction of their things and the possessions that remain that he cares about - his stamp collection) of his emotions. The coffee cups at the end show that his wife was really no longer physically there (her coffee hadn't been touched) but was metaphorically still with him (he made two coffees even though she is dead). An excellent and heartbreaking video about grief, loss, love and loneliness. And a stunning rendition of the song as always by scala.

That couldn’t have been said/written better. What u wrote was absolutely beautiful & a perfect way to describe this video. I listen to this when I’m depressed missing my fiancé that passed away so suddenly. Scala really did this song beautifully (they always do). But anyways, I just wanted to tell u that I love what u wrote & feel no one could write what this video describes any better.👌🏼😊

Perfectly nailed! I loved the soft religious feel of this song so much, after hearing it in a homeless video I looked it up, the video is sad and moving at the same time, beautiful art!

I went to Iraq in 2008 while I was in the Marine Corps. Some of the things I saw, heard and felt were unimaginable. Returning home after 10 months in hell was the hardest thing I've done. I could've used somebody but I didn't know it at the time. A beautiful take on my favorite songs.

Wow what a powerful video. I truly felt she was trying to get him to truly see she could use somebody but he was just so overwhelmed with her illness that he didn't truly notice her. At the end the showing of the clock was like their time is running out and I do agree with the other person who said the rain represented her tears! This was awesome!

As a Marine who too has been to far away lands for far too long, I feel your pain Marine. I did too many tours and too many nights spent away from loved ones. This song does reach deeply into our hearts, sung in such a melancholy way as to evoke a deeper feeling of despair and longing. I do wish it showed a happier ending, however, I believe I understand the meaning of the video coupled with the song. Good luck Marine, I hope everything has become better since you left Iraq.

English not your first language? Yeah, using the wrong adjective can sometimes lead to mistakes. Instead of "saddest", the word you meant was "dumbest". Because this vid basically says that because SHE can't get it on with hubby on account of her slowly dying, she lets him get it on with prostitute. Only a 20yo would find that reasoned behaviour. She is the LOVE of his life! And Life DOES NOT consist entirely of happiness and continual sex. Marriage is not one long bunga-bunga party. It's joy and heart-pounding thrills, yes, but it is also enduring TOGETHER through painful times, through the seemingly unendurable sadness, and multiple threats of ultimate loss. HOW -- tell me how -- his not being able to stick his wick into her candle is the most important thing in his life that he has to betray her feelings -- that's what her tears and the rain are about, not matter what anyone says -- for brief sexual satisfaction?! They both have life, and they should enjoy each other while they can. There's just so much more to life, to marriage, to love, than just sex. The ONLY way this video make sense, is that she is supposed to be the ghost of his now-deceased wife, or that he was driving her to the Euthanasia clinic. inb4 h8 replies; inb4 "OP can't inb4" PS; Hamburger's suggested Revolverheld clip gets what I mean.

Do you realize, that this i a piec of art? It is fictional, and by saying that he found it sad, he does not endorse anyones behaviour in the video. Why do you get so fighty and aggressive about a musicvideo, which, in my opinion, is very well made and original?

I think that this is a beautiful interpretation. My interpretation would be, however, that this video is so beautifully simple. It is just raw emotion from a difficult scenario. It's such a real situation that people usually tend to shy away from in fiction or art because it doesn't have a clear, happy ending. It's reality. For me, she is still alive.

The woman is dead/in a coma, the man can't let go of her, even though he's trying to move on. That's why he's trying the brothel. But in the end you can see it doesn't satisfy him at all and he still misses his true love. This video proves his love for her. And she loves him too, even though she can't reach him anymore. A very tragic story indeed, but this clearly illustrates their love for each other.

She is dying/dead. He can't take the fact that his one true love is dying/dead. He is trying to move on. He went to a brothel but in the end, he just ended up feeling more empty. He misses her. He even made 2 cups of coffee--one for him & one for her. But as we know, she probably won't recover... It's beautiful yet so sad...

I think you're right. At the end there's two cups of tea, one on his side and one near her. His tea is almost completely gone and hers is full. When my grandfather died my grandmother still made coffee every morning even though she drinks tea. Then she would poor him a cup and set it on his side of the table, along with the newspaper he liked reading. It would stay there all day until she tossed the untouched, full cup of coffee out before bed. I hated coming over and seeing it, :'(.

@maisieohhh I had the same thoughts as you. At first I thought she was dying, but then it clicked she'd already died. Lilies are common funeral flowers as they're symbolic of death. With the stamps, I think maybe she collected them, or it was something they did together. Because with the scene when the rooms flooding, the stamp drifting away (along with the cleansing water) just seems like he's moving on. So, so beautiful.

@PleaseDieQuietly Exactly! And the time is stopped, which represents death. I thought the stamps represented communication so when they were getting washed away by the rain it meant was like their communication was ruined (Since she's dead). But I'm not sure! I like your theory! AHH I just love this video so much. I wrote a paper on it!

After a serious head-on with a drunk driver & serious injuries, I spent the better part of the last decade in my room with medical devices, meds, machines & my body no longer how it once was, longing for human touch & warmth - hiding in shame from those I knew - not wanting them to see me that way, but finding some of them broken of spirit - worse. Multiple surgeries & tremendous effort later, I'm almost back to who I once was. I know what it's like to be her - to be broken & "untouchable".
