Scale Model Building - Episode Three. Bandai 1:72 Y-Wing Starfighter PART 2

Hi guys, Part 2 of the Bandai 1:72 Star Wars Y-Wing Starfighter build for you. In this final part I've completed the full build, the painting and weathering.
Unfortunately, I lost all the video footage I took of this part of the build so this is a 'reveal' video with commentary on what I did to achieve the result.
I thoroughly enjoyed building and painting this, my first model ever and will be building the 1:72 scale X-Wing next.

Great job. The wee Bandai 1:72 kits are great. I got A,B,X and doing Y like you at moment: they are such fun kits and there is no wrong way to do them as long as you enjoy and are happy with results.

I'm aware this video is nearly 2 years old now and you've likely progressed with your model building skills since this, but I figure I'll chuck my 2 pence in anyway. When it comes to model building I'd offer up the following advice to anyone starting out, which I've learnt along the way, through making my own mistakes: - Plan your build out before you start building. Save yourself time and effort and read the instructions first to see what sub-assemblies you can put together without having to paint every individual piece. You can also plan out your paint scheme this way. - Practice your paint : thinner ratios before applying it to your model. You'll get far better and cleaner paint results if you've got your ratios down to a tee. The same goes for getting the right air pressure for your airbrush. - Less is more, especially where weathering or battle damage is concerned. You can always add more as you go, but can't take it away without stripping everything back and starting over. Good effort on your first build in any case. Once you catch the hobby bug, it's hard to get rid of it!

Exceptional! Only other comment is at 4.40 you can see two hairs or filiments of glue or something :) Otherwise a great job.

No shame is buying a couple of different sets of cheap reading glasses for fine detail work, I use them these days for really small electronic work; bugger this getting older lark eh ?

Haha yea I agree. I did get some reading glasses (max magnification) but still had a lot of trouble seeing the detail. No idea how guys get on with the 144 scale. I'm looking at the box with the X-Wing in now and thinking 4 Engines! OMG!
