Having built a few Tamiya kits myself, I have to say the models go together nice, and I have never had a problem with a Tamiya kit. They are very well made from the factory.

David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Saturday, 3 August, 2024) EDITED As exemplary as ever! You stand at the very pinnacle of model-building, detailing, painting, etc. I wish I could demonstrate for you how you bring delight to my grim, difficult life, so that you more fully can see my fervent appreciation for you of these videos. I just watched Scale Model Shed build, paint, and weather Tamiya’s 1:48th-scale model kit of the later Republic P-47D Thunderbolt “Bubbletop” USAAF Fighter. Similarly, Mach Models gave us his build video of Tamiya’s 1:48th-scale kit of the late-war Republic P-47M Thunderbolt USAAF Fighter. Though my actual preference is (well, would be) for 1:32nd- and 1:24th-scale kits (the pricing of them would be an insurmountably steep impediment for me; the latter category also has a rather scant few offerings of any true quality and value, with some quite outdated, as well), I greatly enjoy observing a top-quality Tamiya-made replica in progress, especially if in the (gloved) hands of one of far better ability and experience than I; here have I found three or more!

Hello & Thank You- I find your tutorials and your work to be excellent and of great help- I''m near completion on a Tamiya 1:48 P-47D Bubbletop- using Vallejo acrylic Metal Colors- the new ones with a shaker ball already in paint bottles... I've watched countless demo's on the proper use of these Vallejo Metal Colors- used Vallejo high gloss black metal primer, let rest for 36 hours, (and the model was cleaned prior) applied thin coats at 10 psi, let rest for 48 hours, applied 4 thin coats of Vallejo High Gloss Metal Varnish, thinned properly with Vallejo thinner- and timed for another 48-hours to dry- then used de-tacked Tamiya masking tape to paint nose and tail etc. this paint/primer lifted off in several areas- with minimal pressure on tape- and gently pulled off at 45 degree angle... in a dry climate controlled area: sanded- re-primed and painted- dried and the same. I have to use acrylics (I use excellent Tamiya paints- work great- but Tamiya has no acrylic metal colors fine enough to airbrush per se) due to fumes and can not install a proper spray booth (cannot extend or create an area to vent the filtered fumes)- I'm extremely disappointed with this Vallejo product line. The color and pigment density is excellent- even applying decals- very small ones with a toothpick created scratches. using Tamiya Mark Fit Strong directly atop of Vallejo Metal Varnish and guiding decals with a damp cotton bud was an issue: the decals stick like glue to surface on this varnish. (found that using tap water and then multiple coats on top of decals - much more than usual- worked fine. Possibly you may be able to do a full tutorial on the best acrylic metal colors to use on a metal skinned aircraft and walk us through it- many tens of thousands like me- can not set up paint booths to use the better lacquer paints AK, AMMO, MIG etc.- Thank You! Love your work and tutorials-

what I learn with my experience with Allclad is that when you apply the 1st layer you need to start buffing it first lightly for about a min or two. Then add a 2nd layer and repeat the process again. I did this on my MG Gundam Freedom a few years ago just to get a mirror finish. Now I made sure I topcoat the parts quick to protect the shine. I do believe my way would not work with this kit since it has to have a semi dull shine on it. For buffing I used a micro fiber cloth. Amazing work as always.

Loon makes excellent resin pieces for a "C" conversion. Flat belly & nose with just three cowling flaps. I like to do inside and out for canopy, but use the same technique. I use resin tyres. I can't stand 2 piece tyres! After all it is the 21st century. The little center section of the inboard wheel cover is chromed, sometimes the telescopic landing gear would not collapse all the way and the tyres would hang up. Crewchiefs polished up the centerpiece to aid in gear retract & extend. Pit looks good, everything went together easily, no surprise for this kit. The Invasion stripe never lasted on the Turbo exhaust, they would bubble and burn away after the 1st flight. You'd be surprised how many modelers put the antenna wire straight to the mast. Many 47's had the polished look to them, of course quite a few of the 56th F.G. were OD, but by the time of D-Day, polished was not unusual. Beautiful job on the "JUG", she came out looking flight ready. CONGRATS!

As usual, a brilliant job, even if I think that the weathering is just a tad "Overcooked", but that's just my preference - Less is more - subtle. BTW, if you want to get the best "deal" on a Tamiya bubbletop P-47D, buy the P-47M kit. (If you want to build a post D-25 model T-bolt, you have a nasty job to flatten those corrugations in the cockpit floor! I know- I tried to do that in the Trumpeter 1/32 P-47N!) The M kit has a complete early (up to D-25 series and including the fillet-less tail) D kit with the corrugated flooring, and a new sprue with the new cockpit and Tail surfaces, meaning that from this one kit, you can (With the right AM decals and some research) build any bubbletop D model -the D-27 through 35 all had a flat floor as did the later M & N models, which makes the M kit great value! Currently I am just finishing up 2 kits: The Pegasus EZ-Snap 1/48 A-4/V-2 (Which is a great kit, BTW! only 14 parts, including 3 parts for the Launch Pad!) and the Amusing Hobby 1/48 Focke-Wulf Trieb-flugel (Thrust wing!), also a really nice kit.

Glossy black paint is commonly used as a base to mettalic paints like alclad. This is how you get nice finish. You won't be able to get the same result on matt, grey surface.
