I built myself a spray booth from sorted scraps of MDF I had lying around. I've been using it for a few months now and haven't had too much of a problem with dust. I vacuum it out before each use, and also vacuum the filter, which is in an aluminum surround (scrap shower surround). I have 2 fans, one is a very old bathroom vent fan from my old house, which worked but didn't have enough suck, so i added a new, much more powerful fan which is ducted through the ceiling and out the soffit. With both fans going it sucks a decent amount of air, but doesn't suck in too much dust. I get the occasional bit, but nothing to sorry about. I added a glass microwave turntable which worked really well for rotating large items. I'm currently painting the hull of a 1/130th scale Cutty Sark, and it fits in the booth even with the bowsprit attached, and can still rotate.

Also, if you're spraying laquers. You need an explosion proof fan. Very important. I paint with laquers at work, and this is what you need to be safe. Because with all the overspray your litteraly making the air around you explosive. Look it up if you need more explanation.

Yeah, I've been painting in plastic boxes for over 25 years and never had any issues.

I was able to buy the Paasche air booth, 22 x 17 inches, rear electric fan extracts fumes through a four inch dryer hose. This a well made unit, very nice and made of heavy gauge galvanized steel. Works very well with plenty of space for my models.

Don, what if you already have one of the plastic booths, could you maybe line the interior with some metal screen to dissipate the static? I bought a goodly amount of copper screen from Amazon a while back and I wondered if that might work?
