I very much enjoyed this video... I appreciate the fact that you took time to explain your reasoning up front before getting into Scaler 2.5. I'm subscribing because of this very fact. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos as time passes. Cheers!

Thank you for wording it that way. This Plugin does allow me to understand the happy mistakes I have been making and just rolling with. The chord function in the MPC software has helped (training wheels) but with Scaler I can actually tell what the hell I just played. When I hit chords on the keyboard it shows what it is.

Really great coming across you today CZ...you set me on my production journey many years ago and I still appreciate you today. Good to see you still working with Scaler. I'm pretty sure it was you who turned me onto this product years ago and I still use it, and your artist chord sets all the time. David and team deserve the love so great to see you sending some their way. Simple not Basic!

In my opinion,scaler is the most interesting plug in of its kind ,as it allows you to break out of that diatonic straight-jacket ,which I find such an hindrance in other plug ins.

Yeah but if you were to have a naturally ingrained iota of musicianship, you'd know that ChordJam can do dynamic octavial harmonising whereas Scaler 2.1+ cannot. CJ is pretty sweet FWIW. Scaler helps out the myopic producer in you. ChordJam is for musicians that may or may not chose the production route.
@Craftmaster32 жыл бұрын
@@TheReal_E.IRIZARRY what does being musical have to do with knowing what chord jam is? I know plenty of players who know nothing about scaler or chord jam. What a weird comment man.

Thanks! Yes, indeed, Scaler helps to understand what is happening with your chords, I often pay attention that I have not been composing music with Scaler for more than 2 year, I do it myself, I just listen and do it. But Scaler helped me to learn how to listen to what I'm doing and make music. Now in Scaler I check my progressions for tonality and for errors (in different parts of the mix). Also, when I need to work in another genre, I use Scaler to understand the differences between genres, or to identify the characteristic features of the genre. It really works. For me Scaler is a very cool consultant

You’re 100% right. There is no shortcut to knowledge, experience, and skill. At some point, you’re going to have to learn and develop capabilities if you’re going to be good at something. Tools won’t do it for you but they can help teach you.

my perception is like: "everybody can walk and talk etc, so everybody is able to do everything!" and not: "everybody can do music now" .... | "exactly!.. Thats the point that everybody is able to do things". and the other part is: "If i wanna do sound design, ill do it. If i wanna make loops, ill do it. If i wanna make MIDIs, ill do it" so you can do whatever you feel to do in that moment! everybody who has a opinion on something "is not there, and should be not considered as a opinion!" MAKE WHATEVER YOU FEEL LIKE!! (and if you make it easy for yourself, then you profit from that) (Since nobody grow theryr own food and buy it in the store, therefore its allowed to use premade stuff.) Thank you :)

As a music theory educator, I agree with EVERYTHING SAID 🎯🙌🏾🏆🔥🎹💯🎉♥️🚀 Every tool is only present as a guide and musical exercise equipment to give us the full confidence in standing behind our compositions and no more or less! We are always leaving room for others to remix and interpolate our creations further but someone has to stand behind their initial work as either finished or an unfinished work in progress.

I've played guitar, bass and drums for over 20 years. Self taught... not much knowledge of music theory. I can pick out chords on keyboards, but I wouldn't say I was a keyboardist. I come up with my own 'riffs', but struggle to fill out a full fledged song. I love Scaler as a quick way to get from say, a two or three chord riff to a full song. No shame in it. It's still me making the decisions. Scaler simply helps me get there quicker. It's great as a sketch pad. It's a great tool. Thanks for the vid.

Great stuff. i think the makers of scaler do assume that us producers are musicians. if i look at the KZbin tutorials from plugin boutique then they do just explain the controls and not so much what kind of music is created using the controls. so it helps to have a musical background

Thanks for this video. I wish or suggest on next version update, SCALER will allow users to add our own user midi patterns for Chords to follow. This version is just the beginning; I am sure next versions they will add more sounds into Scaler, and they may even sell sounds for us to add in; but without users midi patterns, we can’t be very creative with it. Whatever midi patterns, strumming patterns, arpeggios patterns it has now are great but not enough to be creative to create our own songs. I hope Scaler hears me. Thanks.

It is because the suggestion feature needs to have a chord to start with. If the pad is empty you press the + just to select that first chord the usual way.

@@ivanrojasreischel not sure what u mean. If you look at the video he click on the + without having touched the suggestion feature (or button) befor. I did the same. But after that he has a lot of chord suggestion appearing exactly on the right of the cirle of 5th. I don't.
@ivanrojasreischel3 жыл бұрын
@@gillesantoine7924 let me put it this way: step 1) select the first chord of your progression. step 2) press the Suggest button . You can not press the suggest button until you have at least one chord in your progression. Why? Because the Suggest button will not give you that first chord

I disagree with you. I am a trumpet player. To me you can use this software any way you want. I been around gospel player who can't read but they can play and create music in all keys. I been around classic player who can play until you take the sheet music off the stand. Music is a universal language and what ever float your boat to speak what you feel so be it. In my opinion!

Thanks for the insightful and relevant feed back
@RoneySmithseedoflife3 жыл бұрын
Why disagree? The gospel player you mentioned may be restricted to playing along with others but never composing for oneself. The trumpet player (and my formal music education started on a trumpet as well) is only a player at best until one demonstrates the courage to be willing to be wrong with their musical career. The tools give us multiple ways of being wrong along with suitable ways of being right. Our audiences ultimately determine which we are ALWAYS. It ain’t over until we say it is over while we still have a living breath!

5:11 this part made me laugh. Not in a bad way. i fell for it too when I was starting out. The fact that these "scales" are given names is hilarious and serves no purpose other than to confuse people. hungarian minor, persian minor. hahahah... good lord. "music theorists" must have their nomenclature. It's the same with the "modes". They have those mystical names. Man what a load of BS dude it's just a major scale starting on a different note. Theres only a few scales in the 12 tone system but thousands of variations
@E_-_-2 жыл бұрын
It's perpetuated by fools suffering from the Dunning Kruger effect, because fools write most of the literature. 80/20 rule. These fools attach such meaning to scales that I thought it must be important too (age 15-20s). I wasted so much energy on these scales because of midwits basically. "minor scale but with a major 7th" is a good way to describe something because it actually teaches you something ('scales are made by making a small change to certain notes'), and puts it in a context, where it belongs. Naming things "Persian scale" or "harmonic minor" just forces students of music to create unnecessary categories in their minds. It functions as gatekeeping or a kind of "great filter" - evidenced by how few musicians understand the concept of modes
@E_-_-2 жыл бұрын
What's funny is, it's usually not scales or modes that define a genre but rather the notes outside of them. For example there would be no blues without the outside notes, there would be no metal without 7 & b7 + 2 & b2. Entire genres of electronic music rely on simply shifting the same chord shape chromatically (i.e. a 9 chord played on a sampler with key tracking). Staying in the same "sacle" for an entire piece of music is the composing equivalent of playing C, F G triads and calling it a day. Nothing wrong with that but it does get boring.
