Well done. Thanks for the step by step. The resemblance to the real thing is quite fantastic. I hope one day I can come close to something like this.

I will try to get one put together. I'm just about done with my Bethgon train, but now that ScaleTrains announced some Operator BNSF Bethgons in the wedge scheme I'm going to have to pick up a couple of those. That should about wrap up the train

Thanks KPack for sharing, I've admired your work for quite some time now and was definitely glad to see how you went about weathering up a BNSF loco, you mention Gary in your vid too, that's awesome his work is SPECTACULAR also, thanks again for sharing.

Gary was the guy that really got me started on weathering, and his tips and tricks made all the difference. Whenever I teach one of his techniques, I always credit him because he was the guy who taught them to me. His work is truly excellent. Wish we could see a bit more from him.

Really enjoyed the video. Wasn’t long enough. 😉 Learned a lot and may be brave enough to tackle my Rapido B36-7’s, Seaboard System. Just need to lightly weather and the layer technique is perfect. I agree with you on an airbrush. Too uniform and is a pain to clean.
@freewake844 жыл бұрын
I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is to weather. It's hard to gather up the courage to weather a really nice model, but once you start it's not as hard as it seems. Plus I'm using acrylics, so if I really don't like something they can be removed easier than other mediums.
@mrmrb042 жыл бұрын
wow those pictures at the end were really amazing! I’m assuming it’s a model because none of the hoses are hooked up but to be honest I can’t tell. That looks exactly like they prototype.

This is the coolest weathering video I think I have every seen ,learned so many new things thank you! ,Also I saw that through the weathering process you didn’t use an air brush is there a reason?
@freewake844 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and glad you appreciated the video. Using an airbrush is a lot more work with setup and cleaning, plus mine is not in the room where I do most of my modeling. I find it's faster and more accurate to weather without an airbrush. With some practice you'll probably find the same. The airbrush is also too uniform....everything is the same color, it leaves unpainted parts, etc. The look just isn't as good as doing it by brush.

Kevin, thanks for putting together this series. Still very enjoyable after a few years! Are you regularly posting your projects and models on any sites or other outlets? Thanks!
@freewake84 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I post some at Atlas Rescue Forum and the MRH forum. Besides that not much. I haven't done very many projects the last year or two. I've completed a handful of bigger projects but didn't record any of them. Just pictures of the final product. No videos. It takes too much time and I just don't have extra time to dedicate to making videos.

The oils were Windsor and Newton water mixable oils. Raw umber is what I use typically. The craft acrylics were a mix of Americana and others. They are all very similar.
