PAINTING FIGURES' FACES - SEAN CONNERY BUST (PART 1)

This is a simple non-elitist step-by-step video guide to painting figures' faces - this time the iconic movie star, Sir Sean Connery, who sadly passed away at the end of October 2020.

This is intended for beginners and will be a two-part series showing how to paint a 1/10th bust for those looking to use acrylics.
In part one every step is shown starting with the preparation and priming, as well as using Vallejo Surface primers to block out the main colours.
This is a summary of the techniques we have picked up along the way. So this tutorial from www.scalewarmac... is aimed at AFV model makers looking to paint realistic faces for their figures. It is not a masterclass, rather a simple technique for effective results. It should be accessible and simple to follow. If you want to watch a long-winded masterclass, check out one of the expert figure painter channels on You Tube instead.

The resin bust is in 1/10th scale and is from Young Miniatures reference YM1870, it is called Red Devils Arnhem 17t Sept. 1944.

You should use water when cutting resin and when sanding. It really makes for a less messy experience.

Saw where you using a side cup sprayer . Is that syffer feed or you used what is good at that time ,if it works. I have three kinds of airbrush sprayer . Two is still brand new Aztek with the wooden box. And a paschi both syffer feed. And it has side cup. And cant afford a gravity feed. So Then i pick up a cheap $30 Chinese airbrush. Fix budget. By little here and there. ...

Do you vacuum the resin up after sanding ? Also do you have a window open when air brushing or is that not necessary?

Tend to use a mask and extractor for the most part, I have ventilation too. Due to needs of filming, sometimes I skip both for small sections. But you should be very careful with dust and paint fumes. Don’t leave resin dust lying around, clean up after working with it, ideally with an m class vacuum at least.

Do I need to use black primer or can I use black paint as a base colour

No, the principle is more or less the same but you will find primer has better adhesion and covering properties, but sometimes I paint straight without primer.

Razor saw or fine tooth micro saw. Revell makes a good one you will see in our videos. Ref 39067 Precision Saw by Revell.
