HUGE TIP: After Win8 Microsoft turned OFF SMB 1.0 which is necessary for older Canon scanners which may explain why suddenly your scan to folder would stop working. CONTROL PANEL - PROGRAMS AND FEATURES - TURN WINDOWS FEATURES ON OR OFF - SMB 1.0/CIFS FILE SHARING SUPPORT - Turn all on. (BONUS: Also set HOST to be MACHINE NAME\THE NAME OF YOUR SCAN FOLDER and leave the FOLDER PATH blank. For USER NAME you can use USER and there is no need for a password.) Good luck!

The instructions fail at the very end. You did not fill in the fields in the scanner interface to match what you set up in your computer. I don't know what to put in the host name and path to file fields. Does the host name contain the name of the folder that has the share? Do you need to repeat the shared folder name in the path to folder field? You need a final screenshot showing it filled out to match what you set up in the computer.

Yes when you are going to scan select jpg type to scan in jpg format.

This did not help me. We keep getting "Check the Server" message when trying to send to our new desktop computers. It works on all other computers in the office.

+Ed Chytil Check your firewall settings. For a quick test, disable the firewall and try. If it works then, it is the firewall blocking things. If it is the firewall, there are ports you can open to let the Canon traffic go through. This information should be on the Canon support site.

You need to know right now that what you're telling people to do is a major security risk. you've effectively removed all access control from the share itself by giving the 'Everybody' group full access to the share. The default configuration for the 'scans' file (at the ntfs level) is to include the 'Authenticated Users' group, this means anyone with a legitimate account on the computer or the domain, have legitimate rights to access the share and any data in it.

Not necessarily.  The NTFS permissions always override the share permissions. You can give the everyone group full control on the share permissions and still have secure shares if you configure the NTFS security correctly. Maybe I am wrong, but I have tested it and gotten Access Denied on shares with everyone group full control on the share permissions as long as the security tab with the NTFS permissions are set more restrictively.
