Did you know Rina didn't know how to play drums when she joined the band? She struggled a lot to get there, but she never gave up on the practice even though some teachers told her to quit. For what I know, Haruna said there would be no Scandal if Rina left. This video only proves how far she's grown since then. And she's a majestic drummer, such nice riffs and such passion! Also she's the cutest drummer in the world, isn't she?

The market in Japan is the second largest in the world and fans buy a disproportionately large share of physical albums so there is no need to market internationally and this has proved detrimental for some kpop groups in the past like Wonder Girls and who would want to be bothered now with the uncertainty, high cost, great inconvenience and likely confinement of traveling internationally now. I enjoy listening to a lot of kpop music from women groups, but overall I like Japanese music the best from anywhere over the last couple of decades because it is large enough to have many individual and unique niches with less artistic compromise, and many of the best musicians don't seem obsessed with only doing pop music and so branch out into many different eclectic styles and sometimes the albums and even singles that are number 1 don't even sound that much like pop music because of their length and intricate composition. But I like a lot of kpop songs and groups too.

I hold dear this song because it was the first one I listen to (beside Shunkan Sentimental). The song is so good that I thought it was just another canned band from Asia. Boy was I wrong. I searched a live version of the song. A minor mistake was enough to know that they in fact play their instrument. Good performance. Next song in the playlist, Take me out. God damn. They knew how to put out a good show. Looked up their backstory 'cause girls, playing rock, in Japan? Not to disrespect or anything, but is a weird combination, and a though one, specially with k-pop around. They are the epitome of hard work and passion. Your Scandal journey sounds just like mine. I first heard Shunkan Sentimental while watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on Netflix a few years ago. I instantly loved that song, but didn't really have any idea who was behind it. Fast forward a few years and I was on youtube looking at Japanese songs I was familiar with from anime that I have watched. I was trying to find the song Departure which is featured as an opening on Hunter x Hunter and accidentally found this song instead. I loved it so much that I ventured down a Scandal shaped rabbit hole and I've never come out of it. You can imagine my delight when I found out they were responsible for Shunkan Sentimental too. A real "That was these guys???" moment.

Rina Suzuki is truly a fantastic drummer, the best in my opinion, I can hear a touch of Rina in almost all of the Japanese female drummers since Rina entered the music scene, and you can pick out a Mami, Tomomi and Haruna chord in a lot of Japanese girl rock group songs too, so influencial are these multi talented girls, Scandal for me will always be the number one rock band, be it Japanese or not. Japanese girls rule the world when it comes to producing rock.
