As a retained firefighter for 20 years and now a station officer in Co. Monaghan. The fire service is a very interesting job with no two calls the same. David done very well explaining everything that was on the fire appliance and what the job entails. You can't beat having a Scania fire appliance on the front line at your station. Brilliant video lads 👍🚒

Top tip, if you put the snatchblock to a tree or pillar. You don't double the pulling power of your winch, it just angles the pull. You need to attach the snatchblock to the thing you want to pull, to get twice the pulling power.

Amazing looking at the similarities and differences in our apparatus here in the United States vs you across the pond. The high pressure hose reel is such a foreign concept to me. Our first out hand lines are 200ft preconnected 1 3/4 inch diameter with 200 gallon per minute nozzles. We also have considerably more EMS supplies/common to have paramedic level of care. But our airbags, struts and extrication gear are the same. Really interesting stuff!
@formatique_arschloch3 жыл бұрын
Here in Finland firefighters are also qualified for ems level care and many fire trucks have medical supplies too. Over here firefighters usually work 24h shifts. 12h in a fire truck and 12h in a "class B" ambulance with a paramedic. In a "class A" ambulance both are paramedics. Training to be a firefighter takes 3 years and 4 years for class A paramedic. I thinks there's quite a lot of differences between European countries.
@nevillemason67913 жыл бұрын
The high pressure hose reel (58 US gallons/minute) gives fast attack to small house fires and vehicle fires in Ireland and the UK. Don't forget we don't have wooden houses and fires are often confined to the contents of a room. Water damage can often be worse than the damage from the fire. In the UK, the on board water tank was introduced as a direct result of 6 years wartime firefighting experience. A small amount of water quickly onto a small fire can stop it developing into a big one.
@squidog943 жыл бұрын
@@nevillemason6791 Im always impressed by the power of a little steam. For most "room and contents" fires that haven't breached the drywall into the structural members we follow that tactic as well. Open up the door, couple of quick bursts with a fog pattern and close it back up. Needless to say the Battle of Britain gained you guys just a touch of firefighting experience under some insanely adverse conditions. Much respect.
