Thanks mate. I have been writing out the script for the next video which like you mentioned, is first going to be on the updated version. I feel its worth covering a few of the new changes in the software before moving into the handheld video so those following along don't get too confused with the sudden button changes etc. I plan to have it out this week.

Very helpful, a good video will be a trouble shooting guide, I tried to scan an anodized Aluminium part that SAS black and had a texture on it like powder costing and it failed miserably. I think I had the brightness too high. Will try again tomorrow with what I learned here

excellent illustration! it really helped. I'd like to share with you one of the really great suggestions that benefited me from Finite Projects channel was to coat shiny object with some make-up powder and then do the scan. it gave me excellent results for many objects like cell phones, vape, a butter knife, and some awkward stuff laying around me. this adds to including texture mapping. that's because make-up powder is almost transparent so it allows the scanner to detect texture easily. try that please! Thanks!

That is certainly something I want to try like using talcum powder. I have some black models that just wont scan even though creality claims the lizard can scan black objects. Thanks for the tip.

thank you very much for your guidance in these videos! That helped me a lot! :-) I saw that you scanned a mortal kombat statue in handheld mode. Would you say this scanner can produce models, that could be printed nicely by an resin printer? my first impression is, that its not crisp enough, it looks more suitable for fdm prints
@DraftID
@DraftID 2 жыл бұрын
I had a hand scan of this statute that came out way better. I think hands scanning is better. Good enough for resin printing. In fact my FDM couldn’t do it because of all the supports.
@BrickBazooka
@BrickBazooka 2 жыл бұрын
@@DraftID but actually it should be the opposite. Table /fixed scan should have more quality instead of handscan, cause you have to manually align it. I scanned a similar 12" statue and yes for the first view it looks incredible, but when zooming in you see the poor resolution, that lizard misses some details and that it needs post modeling vs a 3e model that have been 3d scuplted

I have been using the latest software that just released a couple days ago...but I've been having lesser results than yours and plan to play with the settings. Do you have a specific setting you are using to get the results you're having? How about the affects of ambient light (direction, intensity)? Lastly, you will probably address this upcoming but what does the color kit do other than texture? Thank You!!!
@DraftID
@DraftID 2 жыл бұрын
Settings I have all at default. For lighting I find in geometry mode it seems to like a darker environment since it’s using light to scan. In texture it’s using the ring flash to help light the object so it does help to be in a well lit evenly spread room. Hence why the light box is better in texture mode. Colour kit is purely just for trying to capture a colour texture of the object so if you plan to texture yourself it’s not needed. Next video will be handheld scanning (better results) and then colour kit.

hi. thanks for this. made some sense to get a better quality scan than what I've been doing! I have an issue tho and that's 3D programs can't open up the obj or stl. I wanted to throw it in to maya and clean up my scan, but maya said there were artifacts that shouldn't exist and refused to open. Blender did the same thing and so did fusion and so did photoshop. the only one that opened was microsoft 3d builder. I didn't try any slicer program, but creality's slicer probs would have opened it, but not much in terms of editing. any ideas?

I got mine and have been having a bugger of a time scanning anything. Most of my objects are non-glossy black, although I have tried other objects, and I just can't get anywhere near a clean scan for them. Mine came with the light-box (for the color mode) from them giving me an upgrade (due to shipping issue) so I thought using that might help - but it really hasn't. Hand mode, hasn't really provided much better either, so I am not sure what to do. Do I need more ambient lighting? Less? or will I have to resort to a spray or paint over the objects to get scans? Things I would like to scan: A helmet decoration "fin/horn" - (roughly 160mm long), RC helicopter blade (roughly 190mm) and a helmet fast rail (roughly 190mm) these all have curves and are of varying thicknesses/heights. The helicopter blade is basically the whole turn-table wide, so I think that it has issues with that wide of object. I am trying to make some props for Oct31 and.. this was my big idea to scan and print them in groups instead of buying so many up front.. as a first break-in for the scanner use.. but this.. isn't looking well. Forget 0.05mm accuracy.. I can't even get 0.5mm accuracy. So I am looking forward to future videos on the matter.. maybe we can figure something out, without me buying some gray paint.

I do find it difficult to scan black objects despite what they claim in marketing. I also have issues with thin objects like I have a Zelda sword statue that I wanted to scan but it losses tracking when it's looking at the blade edge. I think if you want very high detail scans, this likely aint it.

I don't have that Brightness control in the software. There's a "Use External Texture Mapping" checkbox wether I'm in Geometry or Texture.

Are you on mac? I don't think mac has that feature currently for some reason.
@davecamo744

I AM on a Mac. So, that sucks. The funny thing is that I had the older scanner and had the brightness control for that device but then traded it in for the Lizard because I needed to be able to get the scanner closer to my subject. So, it must have something to do with using the Lizard on the Mac.

What about the light is it better more light or less?thx
@DraftID
@DraftID Жыл бұрын
The scanner works by reflecting light off the object and reading the depth so if you have a lot of ambient light it will interfere with the scan. So technically less light is better.

Im really struggling to use Studio 2.0 as I'm using a hi res screen screen on a new PC. You can't see the text or UI without a magnifying glass or getting a headache. There is no way of changing it in Windows 11 or in Studio itself.

Damn that sounds like a real pain. I'm on a 1440p screen but I'm guessing your using a 4k screen if everything is too small. Hopefully it is something they add into the software to allow UI scaling.

Worth noting that, if you click append and your previous scan disappears, it's because the box showing it is collapsed and the visibility gets turned off. Drag about on the right to get the list back then click the eye icon to make it visible.
