*FLIES* --Last year, I watched a video from Gold Shaw Farms titled *"How A Farmer Won A War Against Flies."* He tested out a number of ways to reduce the flies that were plaguing his farm & cattle. The _clear_ winner were these sticky traps he made by wrapping wide-strip fly paper around garbage cans (the size most of us would have in our kitchens), & placing them around his farm. I've been wondering if he'll be doing the same this year. It really might be worth a watch. Good luck!

@@Lonesome__Doveikr?? The number of flies that he trapped were no joke! I don't think that it took very long for him to notice a decrease in them, too, but I can't recall how many days it was. I really enjoy his channel, too.

Thank you for explaining your reasoning behind naming this beautiful girl Karen! I’ve proudly carried the name for 69 years and can’t explain enough the shame, embarrassment and anxiety I’ve experienced since learning about this new connotation attributed to my name. The weird startled looks I’ve received when people asked for my name at Dr. appointments and whatnot. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for your story about your Aunt. Love your channel and am very thankful I recently found you. God bless to everyone there (two and four legged) 😊❤❤❤🙏

You might want to give them granulated garlic in their feed. I feed 2-3tbls. My neighbor actually started to feed it to his herd after noticing I had very few flies. There is a marsh below the back of the property and the same neighbor collects old tires for some reason. I also have started feeding it year round, Great for skin and joints too.

Petting on the head is how horses play which may be why she’s more mouthy. Playing with their nose / muzzle helps them engage more. Not all mouthiness is biting, she’s probably confused because you’re giving her indication you want to play.

You get one of 3 reactions. 1. Fight, 2. Flight, or 3. Freeze. And she was doing Fight to protect herself in a new environment. But she's obviously a very sensitive and sensible filly. She learns very quickly. After the fly spray went on, she was unsure of what was on her legs, but she still did what you asked of her. From the small breakdowns they have, like when you touched her flank with the lunge whip, that was a breakdown, you will have the breakthrough of understanding. But she recovered when she realized it wasn't something that was going to hurt her. That's a break-through. Well done, JR!! Have a great weekend, and say hello to Emory for me, please. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 🇨🇦🇺🇲

Hello Jennifer! I've seen you somewhere here before, and admired your experience and wisdom. It's very nice to see you around on the same channels that I frequent. Since Ontario is so huge I've wondered what part of it you're in. I've been to many places in Ontario along the trans-Canada, down to Niagra Falls and up to Quebec. I'm very familiar with the places in NW Ontario, from Kenora to North Bay, but less so farther east, though I do also the Ottawa area from living there. Anyway, I hope to continue to see you around! It's a pleasure to see you again!

@Catty Majiv I'm just about 10 minutes from the Ottawa Airport!! And I know Central Ontario very well as I was born in Bracebridge. My grandparents lived in Gravenhurst, so I know North Bay fairly well as well. My father, Military Veteran, was never posted there, but we visited friends on that base a few times. They say it's 6 degrees of separation. And that it's a small world. Well, obviously, that holds true here, don't you think? Have a Safe long weekend!! Love Jenn.💖

As I understand it though they are for stable flies. I've used them. They probably won't do anything for the horseflies and greenheads (those weren't mentioned but breed in swamps so with all the water there I'd guess they have those as well?). But if stable flies are in the mix the predators should definitely help with those.

I don't know if there is a place that sell them or not. But dragonflies eat Nats, Flys and mosquitoes. That might be an avenue to take is to buy some of the dragonflies and turn them loose to control the Flys and such. Also another option for fly repellent, we used to use is Avon skin so soft. It works really well mixed with water and just rub on their entire body. It's good for their skin too. Just sharing some ideas hope they are helpful. I enjoy your videos a great deal.

If you can not use fly spray. Good tip to know a veterinarian I used in up State NY; told me try putting AVON’s REGULAR SKIN SO SOFT ON A MIT/CLOTH. Then apply. The smell does not bother horses. It’s great for mussel warts (deer brings into pastures, good for crustiest inside ears. Excellent bug spray.
