Where do you find information on these old monuments? We have an old cemetery (late 1800’s) on our farm in Alabama and I can’t find any records of it.

Your state government should have records associated with the site, but if your search comes up empty, you might find a few interested archaeologists at a nearby university who could probably help you find out more.

Have you asked at your local library? Often they have genealogy resources or know who in the community is dedicated to the genealogical and historical work. You might also ask at the closest church in the area to see if former families were known and possibly congregants. Some communities it can be harder to find the information than others. Good luck with your research.

I got to help clean the rounded top monument 2:39 min mark, 2 years ago when the 48 State Tour passed through Elkton. The day it was done there was an immediate difference, but seeing how it's progressed over the last 2 years is AMAZING! Anna Is so full of great information and is just easy to talk with.

So interesting! Where I live in California graveyards don’t have much if any damage because of the lack of water moss or lichen. So much neat history to admire in graveyards!!

Learned a lot from this. The man teaching in the video, is he local to Elkton? He'd be great to come speak to our scout troop. My son is going to clean headstones for his eagle project this fall. I'm going to have him watch your channel😉

I work with Scouts. We have a young woman working toward her Eagle but needing a project. She has family in the military, so it was the recent Millennial Stone Cleaner video about helping with veteran stones that I thought "I should forward that to her for an Eagle project." We have several local cemeteries that need some cleaning and repairing. Maybe it can be an idea for several of our scouts.

This is awesome and I'm so happy you're out there doing this. But who are these people who volunteer?
@thathobbitlife2 жыл бұрын
The people who upkeep cemeteries generally are all volunteer. Each grave must be given permission by the family members of the deceased , in order to even touch the grave marker. So the volunteers usually are the same group of folks for many years, it helps alleviate issues between local governments and families, that sort of thing.

Please, can you get rid of the music when you are speaking. As someone with hearing issues, it ruins your videos as its just a strain to hear you. Thanks! Ps yes i can read, but its not the same 😉

Monument to their lives

Some of them might be cenotaphs, where there's not actually a body; like if someone was lost at sea.
