With all the games being remastered, I would absolutely love to see the original Thief series get a leg up.

I think Thief 1 and 2 can be more or less left alone. They obviously don't meet modern AAA standards of graphical fidelity, but they also have a strong enough aesthetic that they hold up. Environments are readable, textures are low-res but they're still varied, and npcs have strong, recognizable silhouettes. (And nobody's really been able to replicate the Dark Engine's sound propagation system.) But this video clearly demonstrates that the visual and UX design of Deadly Shadows has aged INCREDIBLY poorly. Bump and normal maps are turned up way too high (especially given their resolution is still not very high), and the colours are stuck in mid-aughts brown and greys. Definitely a prime candidate for a ground-up remake.

@@Fafhrd42 Yeah, imagine if Arkane took over the remake for Thief, that would be amazing! With Prey, the studio has shown that they can take a creepy path if the need arises and getting a remake from their design know-how would be invaluable.

Aw man, my teenage self was so very scared of this level when I played it back in 2005. Somehow it's still fairly spooky despite the glorious early-2000s graphics. ...Mike trying to play it while shooting all the enemies and not picking any locks did set my teeth on edge, though, lol. It's the OG stealth series, what did you expect?!

The Thief series is underrated for spooks i think. I actually enjoyed the reboot game, and i think it would have done better if it hadn't had the bad luck of being released at the same time as Dishonored. They had very similar gameplay but very different vibes, and the Moira Assylum level had me absolutely doing a cry, it was seriously scary. I really enjoyed the game but i haven't gone back to it because i'm a big ol' coward and creepy pale dudes tracking you in the pitch black assylum cellar is just too much.

Yeah, that VtM hotel was something else. The fact it made you, while playing as a badass super-vampire, get slowly more terrified, was huge achievement. Like it's easy to scare the player when you make them play as an average joe with one all of 8 fingers, but it's another thing entirely when your character is powerful, but still made powerless through the horror

There is also that distorted voice you hear in the cradle, which means something like " they'll find you" ! It's basically that ghost girl that's talking to you, and the cradle itself it distorting her voice so you won't understand her warnings. You can see details about what the voices mean here.

Actually that "medical" treatment is about about right for the time setting of the game. The 4 humours were considered genuine science and all medical science was about balancing them to cure a patient.

It's a stealth game, trying to take on all the baddies head on is not advised. Also, never had that kind of issue with the ladders, but I'm pretty sure you can change the settings where you either jump onto ladders or connect on contact.

A bit of a shame this game wasn't streamed at its best. There's a patch for widescreen resolution and little control and texture tweaks that fine tune the game. Would've made the stream more appealing to people curious about Thief 3. Still loved the dynamic between Jane, Andy, and Mike (who hated every moment of gameplay, lol).

Regarding Mickey Mouse: I've heard On The Internet (TM) that the duration of copyright was extended several times in the past, for some reason always shortly before Mickey Mouse would have become public domain.... Also I'm told while the Mickey Mouse comics enter public domain, the Character of Mickey Mouse is trademarked, and trademarks don't have an expiry date (instead they expire once they aren't enforced anymore, which is why companies are legally obliged to sue trademark infringements even if it results in bad publicity for them 🤣 And why they sometimes sue even though the evidence is dubious at best, just to make sure their silence isn't judged by some court as failure to enforce their trademark)
