Just like the console scene, I think it’s cool to see aftermarket/modern creations and mods made and released for old hardware. Definitely a smaller market though and that makes development a little less likely for certain things. It just makes you appreciate what is available even more though.

Your arcade collection is becoming pretty epic at this point! Always nice to see the extra measures you take with housings and restorative work etc that gives your stuff the extra aesthetic appeal. It’s interesting to see how the Saturn has seemed to become the ‘hipsters’ console of choice in the retro world now (not sure if that word has the same connotations in the US as it does in the UK?) considering how much of a flop it was when it was around originally....I had one myself (in ‘97 I think) for around 2 weeks lol. I remember the guy in Electronics Boutique who served me at the time asked why I wanted one with a puzzled look on his face! I bought it with Fighting Vipers, Nights, Sega Rally and Virtua Cop and got bored with it in a really short time and went back to trade it in for a PlayStation - it was the same guy working there again and he felt sorry for me and let me return it for the full retail value instead of trade-in value. I know it was very successful in Japan though...
@ScarletSprites4 жыл бұрын
That’s quite a story and also really cool that you got all of your money back. Like I said in the video, I was really into the Sega arcade scene and this system really appealed to me because of that. Ultimately I was still in high school so I didn’t have money really. The largest financial transaction was pulling off getting a 3DO and I was pretty sunk at that point.
@philipadams33257 ай бұрын
It's funny because I look at the list of games you got with the Saturn and think how awesome that lineup is. However, I was primarily an arcade gamer. The Saturn - back in the day - really is what got me into the import scene really deep. I had had a few imports on the Genesis/Sega CD but nothing like how I got into the Saturn and later the Dreamcast. I think part of why the Saturn has become popular with hipsters is that arcade lineup of games that it has is really timeless. And there is the just whole idea of harder to find so you can feel special.
@Shadowbann3d6 ай бұрын
@@philipadams3325 I’m yet to delve into the Saturn library properly but am looking forward to the full core release on MiSTer so that I can experience some of those classics that the system is known for, as well as some of the more obscure type of Japanese games (Pu-Li-Ru-La for example). The Dreamcast is easily a top 3 console for me, perhaps even #1, it was so impressive as a home arcade alternative back in its era and still holds up incredibly well today.

This is an awesome showcase for the Sega ST-V. I'm new to collecting arcade hardware but I told myself the ones I wanted to start with when I was ready was the Hyper Neo Geo 64, the Atomiswave and the ST-V. Out of all three of those the ST-V might be the best one to start with simply because of that neat multicart from Darksoft. To have the entire ST-V library at your fingertips is pretty great. That enclosure that you have is very nice, a prime example of good care and flash of your hardware.
@ScarletSprites3 жыл бұрын
It may be the cheapest of those three too. I don’t own any Neo Geo 64 hardware unfortunately. I was close a few years ago when I almost had a Beast Busters 2. The Atomiswave games I just netboot to Naomi 2 hardware. It’s cheating but it keeps me busy playing. I don’t feel as though I’m missing out on not having the actual board and those carts have become really pricey lately.
@SkyScourgeGod3 жыл бұрын
@@ScarletSprites Yeah the ST-V is the cheapest for sure. Hyper Neo Geo 64 hardware is always difficult to find and when you do find it it's not cheap. Atomiswave isn't too bad but its best game, Dolphin Blue, goes for over 1k alone and that's far too much for any game. It would be nice if SOMEONE out there could make a flash/multicart for the Atomiswave board, but so far nobody has taken the challenge to do that... :(

I was wondering if I would see an ST-V from you sometime, haha. Great video, man! The effort you put into your videos really shows and you certainly deserve more subs. I have an ST-V myself (not a pimped one, yet, haha). I might invest in a multi-cart, but I do have a few games for it, including a really good shooter, Guardian Force. Now that I've returned to uploading again, I would like to make more full direct capture playthroughs of my arcade machines/boards including ST-V games. Guardian Force would probably be the 1st one. ;)
