Yeah those strips were a blessing. Had to setup a full length mirror in front of me to see what effect sliding the strips had on the monitor. I kind of hit a point where I was getting minimal gain though, so I gave it up after getting it to an acceptable state.

Great video! I have a pair of Initial D Arcade Stage 2 machines and before I bought them, I had no idea net booting was even a thing. So when I discovered it, it blew my mind, haha. Both of my Naomi 2s already had NetDimms, so it was very cheap to set up. I've still been doing it the old fashion way with a laptop, but it's so awesome to be able to play Club Kart European Session, The King of Route 66, Crazy Taxi and others. Even non-racing games are somewhat playable without changing any controls, like Airline Pilots. I'd like to get one of the Naomi 2s going in my Neo Geo MVS 4 slot, provided I get a JAMMA I/O or make adapters for a type 1 I/O.

Love the look of these Sega cabinets, I remember seeing them appearing in the arcades a bit later into the 90s and thinking how futuristic they looked lol. Would love one of these at home - the complicated looking wiring and know-how required to set up and maintain them is daunting though!

The JVS and Naomi NetBoot setup required some reading, for sure. I should link more things in the description after this weekend is over. It’s a pain even assembling all of the parts, but once it’s all wired you’re good to go.

@ScarletSprites

The Astro City I have is Jamma wired, and the Blast is JVS. If a cab is already Jamma wired you’re good to go, easy to just plug the board in. For a Naomi you want it to be JVS wired and you’re going to need an I/O board as well.

There should be controls on the crt board to adjust your convergence, and rings to adjust also.
@ScarletSprites

There’s a pincushion and parallel adjustment but those don’t solve just that one corner. Believe me, I’ve tried. The rings and yoke would be next, but man, what a dark path to go down. Once you’ve played with the rings you can really be in for it. Think I’m satisfied with the convergence strips tbh.

Just found your channel. I currently have a dedicated mvc2 naomi 1 in a dynamo showcase cab. Finding replacement parts for the 33" sharper image monitor is getting expensive. I'm not well versed in the arcade world honestly but I do like this netboot option for the naomi. Would upgrading to the naomi 2 to be the best option or will the naomi 1 still be ok for most of the library via netboot? And what would be your suggestion on either and LCD upgrade for my cabinet or good quality different cabinet recommendation. Thanks.

dylan craven Take a look at these Bartops running Hyperspin: www.tinyarcademachines.com/mame-arcade-machines.html I used to have one myself, they're pretty decent and there's more games on them than you'll ever be able to play! Not sure where you are but the guy who makes them is in the UK but I believe he ships them worldwide. They're pretty expensive though but run flawlessly, the only downsides are that the artwork offered for the sides is not great (just individual stickers stuck on rather than the whole side panel being offered as one piece of art). The other thing I didn't like was that when one of the micro switches for a button got stuck and needed replacing I discovered that all the wiring connections had been soldered (rather than crimped connectors being used which would be a lot easier to swap over).

There were games released later in the systems life cycle that used the network feature, mostly football/soccer games I believe. Flash forward to present and crafty people have been able to capitalize and make use of the method for almost the entire library.

I think I was pretty fortunate with this one. I didn’t do much outside of a general cleaning and some other cosmetic things with the artwork and marquee lamp. I am about to buy a full Naomi2 set up for my Blast. Is it possible to have this set up and still use JAMMA boards at the same time? Have you played EX?
@ScarletSprites
@ScarletSprites 6 жыл бұрын
I’ve played EX, it’s ok but not something that I often have loaded up. The Naomi uses JVS wiring with an I/O converter, so you’ll have to do some switching to go back and forth between that and Jamma. I also have my monitor connected via VGA, so that’s something else to consider.

If you use a pc vga 31 khz with the same games it's the same no? For some jamma,ok,the real and emulation are not 100/100 accurate,but with 'modern' games they are closer to pc,like naomi,taito type x,so with a pc you should have exactly the same. I will built a nice pc hyperspin (or retroarch,mame,recalbox)in 640x480p,what's the better option (i3,i5..3,6ghz..4/8 go ram..ssd..hdd..Windows 7..10..?). It's just to play classic 15 khz with scanlines and 31 khz naomi,atomiswave,taito type X,terrordrome,sf4,trouble witches neo.. Maybe also a Xbox360 glitch on my Blast city in vga to have all japanese xboxlive arcade iso and retroarch if that possible. Real jamma are really expensive today...specially when you prefer play than collect now. Thanks if you can show what s the better and cheaper config pc to use to have the best experience. (I'm new with hyperspin).

Software emulation will only ever be as good as the programming, regardless of the hardware used. That said, I really can't give recommendations for PCs or Hyperspin because I just never use either for arcade gaming. Hyperspin seems to have gained in popularity so I'm sure there are people and forums out there who can get you started.

@@ScarletSprites Thanks. Now,with Ati cards,soft 15 khz,Groovy mame..you can have a real pixel perfect on a arcade cabinet with a pc and jammasd. kzbin.info/www/bejne/anLJiZSvZdiBrdE I have a old pc in 15 khz but not enough power to play Cotton 2,Deathsmiles..so I try to make one in 31 khz vga to play Naomi..Atomiswave.. I compared the real pcb jamma with 15khz emulation and..it's the same for 95/100 of the games,the rest is just visible if you play the game in a rean pro way or with difficult hardware to emulate. Now my Hyperspin 31 khz is fine with pc monitor and usb arcade stick..but not yet on jammasd vga. Anyway,thanks. You can try just the easy way..a raspberry with a 15khz image of recalbox,retroarch..with Pi2jamma or other jamma..gpio scart rgb 320x240p 60hertz adaptor..is cheap and easy now..with that..from Mario bros to mvs cps3..pgm...(and soon much more with the raspberry 4).
