Hey! thanks for the great video! When safe mode is enabled and the scarlett notices clipping, does it lower the gain for the entire clip or is the gain going up again after the loud section?
@EdThorne7 ай бұрын
Good question. It’s supposed to just lower the gain of the clipping samples but in my experience it takes a little longer to reset/recover so there can be audible and unnatural dips in volume of abused.

Does autogain in this device, gain low signals or does it only protect against clipping?
@coyotelittle3 күн бұрын
Auto gain adjusts the amount of gain in real time depending on your recording. So if you randomly start getting louder it will automatically lower the gain. The safe mode is great for quiet recordings but awful for recording louder sounds like screaming and belting. Your recording will sound janky and clippy if you’re going over the safe level.

Please, do a quick comparison of the new Scarlett with and without an external preamp, like a FET Head or Cloud Lifter. Is a low-noise external preamp of any benefit?
@EdThorne Жыл бұрын
There’s no need really. The Gen 4 has 69dB of gain, that’s enough to power anything!

Thank you for providing awesome content! Could you tell me which one would you choose: new Focusrite Scarlett 4th gen 4i4 or Universal Audio Volt 476? I've watched your reviews and I like the compressor and vintage modes in Volts but the new Scarlett has loopack, digital control within the software and the auto-gain function. UA seems to be a bit higher quality but it doesn't have some options that Scarlett has. UA bundle has better plugins as well... What do you think?
@EdThorne Жыл бұрын
Thank you. That’s a really good comparison. To be honest, you’ve nailed the pros of both and it makes it a very difficult decision. I may need to do a video on it to be able to decide for myself 🤣

@@EdThorne Thank you for the reply. I have AKG D7 as my main microphone so I thought that perhaps the new Focusrite would be better with 69dB of the input gain. I also like some of its features, as I've mentioned. However, the UA pre-amps and compressor are very tempting. Would you really do the video that would compare Volts with the new Focsurite line? That'd be great!

Thanks dude, so after dsp Scarlett release, we might have a dsp based Clarett on tb 3-4
@EdThorne Жыл бұрын
I think yeh Clarett has DSP already for its monitor mixing app. It’s been three years since I’ve used one though so I could be wrong.

Would the 4th gen focusrite make more sense to buy than the MOTU M4?
@EdThorne Жыл бұрын
It depends. If you need ultra low latency for running guitar amp sims, get the Motu. If you want slightly better features all round besides latency, get the Scarlett.
@BorbasBence10 ай бұрын
@@EdThorne Hi Ed! Do you think it's worth buying the Motu M2 for the low latency (I'm a guitar player and I would use amp sims) if my MacBook only has Thunderbolt ports on it so I would have to connect the Motu through a USB hub? Would that cause some extra latency? What do you think would happen if I connected it with a USB C - USB C cable directly to the Mac? Thank you!

are safe mode can be applied in the outputs also?

No.

Any chance can compare this to the Apollo twin (I know there’s a huge jump in price) just wanted to compare if the difference is noticeable and worth the extra $700+

I did that video with the Gen 3. Not enough has changed to remake that I don’t think.

I wonder; i have a Zoom g6 effectpedal, with an internal audio interface. Sinds a few days I used this Scarlet interface also. But the autogain refused to recognized the signal. It turns to red, with exeption when I turn the mastervolume on my effectpedal almost to zero. That means i can't barely hear mij direct sound. Is it possible that the Scarlet don't work with the intereface from the Zoom g6?

Hi nice vid had a question so it’s been a while since I got a focusrite Scarlett’s and was wondering like when I turn off my computer it powers off but do I need to also power off the 48v phantom power and auto gain and safe before turning off my computer? I just don’t want to fry my mic or anything
@EdThorne Жыл бұрын
In an ideal world, yes, turn off your phantom power first but it doesn’t t matter. You won’t damage your mic (unless it’s an old ribbon mic which can be sensitive to power surges).
@BluuKatt Жыл бұрын
Ok yeah I just got the new shure sm7db it’s just gonna be for that and also thanks for replying have a great day and stay safe

I just got mine in, why do i hear my mic through my speakers or headset while gaming?
@EdThorne Жыл бұрын
If you can hear your voice through your speakers, that’s nothing to do with the interface. That will have something to do with the loopback/audio/screen capture software you’re using to game. If it’s just through your headphones, turn Direct Monitoring off (stereo icon button on the front panel).
