Scarlett Johansson 3D lenticular

Short video showing some of the stages in producing a 3D lenticular - I created a 3D model of Scarlett using Zbrush, Mudbox and the excellent Texturing XYZ displacement maps. This is then rendered from multiple angles, interlaced into one image, printed and laminated to a lenticular sheet. Easy!

I really wanna know how to print one of those from my 3d model. Like how many cameras to put and how to feed it to what program to make this image that with the lens looks 3d. If you got time and you want pleeease make a short video telling us how to do those. You’re the best I’ve seen so I guess a tutorial like that from you would be gold

This looks awesome! I was just wondering, where did you purchase that lenticular sheet? I can only find them in bulk (like, industrial amounts) and they're not available on Amazon. I was hoping to create a similar project to this, just using blender instead of zbrush.

Thank you! Yeah there aren't many who supply small amounts - try Vuethru.com for lenticular sheets, that's where I get mine. I think the minimum is 25

Thanks! It’s modelled in Zbrush, a bit of Mudbox, and rendered in Maya. To do the interlacing stage I used 3D Master kit.

I saw you mention getting 40 LPI sheets but only saw that under flip sheets and not under the 3D sheets. Is flip what you used? Is there a difference?

Hi - Yeah I used the flip sheets - the difference is the flip sheets have a wider viewing angle than ‘3D’ sheets. This is good in a way because you can move further to the sides and see more before the sequence ‘flips’ back to the beginning, but it means you need more frames and more print res than you would with a 3D sheet to get the same amount of depth.

@@sujitchachad I use a Canon printer so it’s 600ppi. An epson printer at 720ppi might be slightly better but I’ve never tried.

Can any regular printer print lenticular images? If lenticular images are printed with any printer, will they be printed in 3D?

Hi, any good colour inkjet printer that can print photographs can be used. Obviously the better the quality the printer the better the results but I started out with a basic $100 photo printer. The print won't be 3d by itself. You need to overlay a lenticular sheet on top of it and align it exactly

I've never made a flip but it should work, yes! you only have 2 images in a flip so you could probably use a higher lpi sheet if you wanted.

Why don't holographic displays like the Looking Glass display scramble images like this and put a filter sheet over it instead of displaying 400 you know what images at the same time

The Looking Glass display does do this, it works in the same way

@@Howseography not really as I'm aware of. The Looking Glass works by showing different images at every possible viewing angle all displayed together. This only covers the horizontal side to side plane and it requires 45-100 images to fake depth. It doesn't scramble the image first via software then filter it with a distortion sheet. This is about the newest model so there may be an older version that doesn't work the same way, but it seems they all operate in a similar manner.

@@deltap6967It’s a lenticular display, fundamentally it works the same way as a printed lenticular. It takes the frames you input, interlaces them, and a lenticular lens array on top of the screen resolves it into a 3d image.
