I was watching something where this man was stating that you don't just come out once, you have to come out daily in all different situations. It would make it alot easier if the assumption wasn't that everyone's straight. I really feel for Kate in this, I hate going through these awkward situations.

This might be a little bit off. But judging by the interviewer’s accent maybe Kate felt that she would have a negative reaction. There were several interviews in this room by different people all of whom have Russian accents and since being gay is illegal in Russia maybe she decided not to out herself.
