I might be able to explain the pickup reading situation. They probably have the guitar made in a way that you can play it as a standard guitar without needing the battery - try to play it without a battery, and it’ll probably work without all the effects (likely wasn’t using the battery when you first tried it without the effects). As soon as you engage the electronics, the pickups are now working off of the effects and battery, which probably bypasses the ability to read the magnets somehow. I never saw this exact setup on a guitar, but that’s my guess based on my understanding of tech stuff. There’s another brand or two with built in effects. I’d be curious to see how they are built and work in comparison. I forget the name of the one many KZbinrs review that has a bunch of models that has an app of some kind to setup the guitar and effects. Then there’s the Jamstack Studio midi guitar which works and is built very differently than this Bullfighter with traditional pickups and a proprietary midi pickup. That guitar works as a standard guitar would until you plug in a special midi cable and then you can use it not only for live effects but can track notes and record audio with it. But hey, for $299, it’s a fun guitar. It’s too bad about some of the sharp edges and that action when some of their other guitars came much better out of the box, but if someone is willing to adjust and fix those little things, it might make for a fun spare guitar if someone doesn’t have access to effects. Are they the best quality sounding effects? No. They’re a little thin and tinny. But a kid will probably be thrilled and as a spare guitar or for an adult who is first starting out, I think $299 makes sense. I wonder if they changed the price permanently or if just for Prime day. $399?! Nope. At that point, you may as well buy a standard guitar that’s less money and a much better sounding multi effects pedal (like the one you gave Trey that he used at a gig when his rig when down).

I'm stuck at home with covid, watching episode after episode of this channel while playing my guitar. This channel is like chicken soup for the guitar addict. Thanks for keeping me distracted. Pro tip to anyone else who's reading this - changing pickups with a fever can lead to badly done solder joints and replicated effort, and is probably not a good idea anyway. I figured that out yesterday.

They didn't include the battery, most likely, because then they would have to jump through hoops with shipping regulations for the Li-ion battery. Easier to have you source it elsewhere. But they should tell you what battery. 18650 is very commonly used in flashlights and vaping.

While it's not a perfect swap, the 18650 lithium batteries can replace those little battery "cages" that hold 3 AAA batteries in flashlights.

I like that you buy the guitar yourself, but what would be better would be to agree to take the guitar from them and order one on the sly to see if there is a big difference. It would show if the company is pulling these kinda shenanigans. Love the channel!

Hey, Sean. It was a while back. Not the last Bullfighter which you rejected, but the one before it. I will remember that red Bullfighter you endorsed a while back, for the rest of my life. Mostly because you said it was worth as much as $800, and Amazon would not deliver to my location. Man, I was hopping mad on fire! lol But I don’t care too much. I’m just glad you do these guitar reviews. Maybe I’ll be able to get the next one. And even if I don’t, I still learn somethin from every video you make. I also like your singing and playin. The thing about effects being built into the guitar is that you are limited to the sounds someone else chose since you can't adjust them. It may save you from having to lug around a few pedals but, isn't it better to lug around those pedals so that you can adjust the settings?

That's gotta be some kinda record for y'all not putting out a video.. it was worth the wait though.. once again.. nice job as always. This guitar reminds me of the very 1st guitar I ever owned.. like 30 years ago.. I think it was a Cort.. it too had on board effects. I don't know how they were though.. I traded it toward a drum set before I ever got to plug it in.. never really took to the drums and traded for a bass only to trade that for another guitar. Shoulda just stayed with guitar and got an amp.. lessons learned as they say. Looking forward to the next 🤘 BTW.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHY 🎉 I just had a birthday myself last week.. I turned 25 too 😂

For 300 I’d say yes all day long, I’d give it the same 8/10, the effects should be adjustable. I don’t know how useful they would be! Nice clean packaging, beautiful finish. This is better then a Eart I paid close to 400 for a review, that came with the strings laying on the pick ups, set neck, everything was loose, I fixed it up and gave it to my kid, but this guitar is twice what that one was. Great honest review, and I love the fact you bought it yourself, nice gig bag. Awesome Review!!! 👏🏼, as always another killer show.

Sounds like a good guitar, something always needs to be corrected with any of them. Built in effects saves one from spending $ 100''s on pedals if they are what the musician can work with. What would be intriguing ? Something that is compatible with Kemper profiles for effects ?

Happy Birthday Cathy! Keep those pickups coming!! I think this guitar is great for beginners, or something to practice at home. The built in effects aren't perfect, but it beats messing with a huge pedal board. I've been playing for over 20 years, and I'd use it for noodling at home. Just guitar licks...no catfish noodling lol.

Hi Sean, this is a really great channel. Would you consider doing a short video on how to use the tools you work on a neck with? How to use that little triangle thing that you check the frets with, how to level them if needed and how you polish them. That would be great!

I imagine there is an app that controls the effects. There has to be, there is a bluetooth button on there. If they had the effects plate match the pickguard, I think it would look MUCH better. They use a white pickguard on literally every single model so why they made that choice is beyond me.

Yeah, 18650s are super common, though I'd personally want a standard alkaline battery compartment. They make rechargeables in those size anyway, so I don't see the benefit to using a different size than 9V or AA.

Sounds like a neat idea on the surface, but when a better mousetrap comes along, you're kinda stuck with the old one. And, what was that *snap* at 07:11? Sounds like the string binding up in either the nut or saddle.

I like the humor with the technical difficulties. The only downside with that guitar would be with the battery unless it were rechargeable. Very good review and evaluation.
