Scarpa Ribelle Run: Does the Italian Stallion hold up in the UK?

Absolutely loving the increased running content the site has been putting out over the past year or so. Saw you in the trigger results recently, doing the Edale Skyline?

Thanks for the kind words - they're greatly appreciated. We've certainly tried our best to up the ante on the running side. It's coincided (rather fortuitously) with me doing a lot more, which has helped write reviews such as this. Ordinarily I'd have been up for doing the Edale Skyline, but I've got the Cheviot Goat the week before. Did you enter the Trigger too btw?

A great shoe in my opinion, I wear them a lot in the Alps in the region almost next to the Dolomites, on basically the same type of rock and they excel perfectly in such terrain. Very stable, sticky, protective enough for its weight, great fit as usual Scarpa. I would never use them for ultra distances, too soft, although they are cushioned just enough, but they are stiff just right for scrambling and easy climbing, when an approach shoe would be too stiff for long day comfort. So in my mind, they are very comfortable for long days, mostly with hard terrain and a lot of elevation, rather than distance.

Firstly, I'm very jealous of where you live!! I agree with your sentiments regarding ultra distances too, although I wanted to stress the point that they're not quite as limited as Scarpa suggest (i.e. short to medium distance). Like you say: they're great for long days on technical terrain, irrespective of whether you're running, climbing, walking or scrambling.

The XT version has 2mm more of a drop, 4mm vs 6mm. Im not looking for a running shoe, but more of a trail walking shoe. The RUN is comfy, from what I've tested in store. But I have not compared it to the XT. Wondering if a 6mm drop is recommended over the 4mm drop. The 4mm RUN feels good, but not sure if there's a benefit of having a higher drop for trail walking.

How do you change the laces?

Unfortunately there isn’t a way of removing the laces without cutting them off, so once they’ve been removed there’s no way of going back to the speed lacing

it's a shoe for alpine terrain with 4mm lugs, no surprise here...I'm sure Rob is great in mud :)

@@Thefifaplayeryant I think that's it isn't it, although I do think it's a good all-rounder in drier conditions. Hopefully Scarpa produce some sort of mud-loving monster, which answer the biggest question once and for all - am I just terrible in mud?! It'll be a funny video that one...

I live in the Peak District (so lots of rain, mud, boggy conditions) and I have really hated these shoes and have never had as many issues with my feet (bruises, blisters, toes getting squashed) when wearing these 16+ miles - I have narrow feet but still feel like my feet get squashed in these. Glad I got them on sale, won't be repurchasing.
