This is a re-upload of an old episode, originally published on August 8th 2020. It was blocked in most countries on January of 2022 after a copyright claim from Chinese state media for use of a 90's TV show in the intro. Because of this, the visuals in the intro have been heavily re-worked. I also changed the song at Chairman Segata's Wall for a separate copyright dispute that didn't come up before.

That’s kinda insane that a somewhat obscure video (shouldn’t be obscure, your reviews are literally the best on the internet) would come under the auspices of Chinese state media. They must have some serious AI scanning the internet. Scaaary.

Godawful bot copyright system, mad props to working through this, man. And thanks for telling us what was changed and why, it's always annoying when somebody re-edits and re-uploads a video and just doesn't acknowledge any changes at all.

I really hope you continue to do these. All your videos are well made, and they give the Saturn a love and care that it quite frankly deserved in 95. The Saturn is also a console that not that many gamers really are aware of. You also give a snapshot of a fascinating period of video game history. I get that these videos are very time consuming for not that much financial compensation so if I gotta support a Patreon to help out, I would gladly do so.

If not for you I would have never learned about the ins and outs of this game. Back in Fall of 1995 I was feeling deprived of games on my new Saturn so with me feeling desperate I went into Barnes and Noble (Who sold video games for a modest period of time) and picked this one up for 80 dollars. Got it home, took one look at the manual and groaned, fired it up and let out an "ehhh", took it out of the system, packed it back up, and returned to the store the following day. The guy at the store said in a cheery voice "So, this game is bunk huh?" to which I said I don't really know since I didn't want to put in the work necessary to try to get into it. Maybe if I had ever played any one of these Koei strategy games on the 16-bit systems the acclimation process would have been more streamlined, but said Koei strategy games all looked so pedestrian and samey and I never could justify buying one over something like Final Fantasy 3, Phantasy Star IV, Super Metriod, Dungeon Explorer II, and the list goes on and on. For a Saturn game though it would have been encouraging if the visuals were a noticeable step up worthy of a new 32-bit system. It's hard to go from Panzer Dragoon to this. Fortunately Barnes and Noble was one of the only places that allowed you to open your game and still return it to get your money back.

Time for yet another rewatch. Glad to see this review back up, I'm something of a casual fan of Koei's Dynasty Warriors games, with the exception of their licensed Warriors games such as FotNS and DW Gundam, but I had never touched their Rot3K games that predated all of that, at least until I saw the original review before it was blocked. Still a great review Panda Man.

ROTK 11 and 10 are my favorites, though many swear by 9. I like recreating all 36 heavenly spirits and some of the more notabale earthly fiends and doing the special scenario with all factions in ROTK 11. Zhang Jiao vs Gongsun Sheng! Gan Ning vs Li Jun! Zhang Liao vs Huyan Zhou. Yan Qing vs a dumpster because nobody likes him! :P

@@planescaped I've been wanting to play another ROT3K for a while. As someone who enjoyed 4, is 9 the way to go?
@planescaped2 жыл бұрын
@@PandaMoniumReviews I haven't played 9 myself so I can't say, though a lot of the guys I knew back in the days on gamefaqs ROTK boards did say it was the best, though also the hardest. .... or was it 7 that was the hardest? :P I've only extensively played 4, 8, 10 and 11. The series tends to alternate between officer focused (letting you play any 1 character even non rulers) and ruler focused. Most prefer the ruler focused games, and yeah, they do tend to have better AI. 11 was overall my favorite ROTK though, after that too the series kinda took a dive.

If you want a simpler ROTK experience, then the Dynasty Warriors games do that job pretty well, specifically the Empires versions of those games. The Empire games have a good balance of action game and strategy game, and it has a character creator as well.

Fusion Magazine: "Characters with names like Cow Pie and Hung Low" As someone very acquainted with the people of the era, I can assure you there is no one with a name that sounds anywhere near "hung low", and Cao Pi is not pronounced anything like cow pie, more like 'sow pee' which isn't much better tbh. There is a guy called Dong Tuna and another called He Man though. "Despite it's name, Romance of the Three Kingdoms has no sex scenes" Need Jin Ping Mei for that. :P

With all the myriad (not to mention excellent) Japanese exclusives on the Saturn, I'm quite surprised to find that this got a U.S. release at all. I know this isn't exactly the most obscure franchise, but it's certainly not one that vibed with the North American and campaign that SEGA of America was going for, around that time.
