I had been on the fence on some of the remastered tracks (Jowd's theme in particular had odd mixing compared to the original) but this one absolutely won me over. This was my favorite song in the original game, and this version keeps that heavy melancholy feeling while adding just a bit more punch. I love it.

Yeah, they sound somewhat amateurish at times, but the composition is so inherently good some out of place mixing and instruments still can't hurt it

It says a lot that this song plays in 6 of the 7 arguably most memorable moments in the entire game. 1. What I deserve is... "execution." 2. I'm the one who shot her! I'm the one who shot Alma! 3. I was being "controlled." 4. Of cooourse. Why else, baby? 5. What good were my "powers"? They didn't help anybody. 6. How about it? Do you remember now... old friend? (The 7th being "Ray", where some different songs play.)

Spoilers ahead, read at your own risk! Yomiel has one of the most relatable villainous backstory and redemption arc. Accused of a crime he didn't commit, acting in blind panic to escape a goddamned overzealous jackass cop whom lied to him that he would suffer greatly if he didn't give him information he was unable to give because he genuinely was not involved, a cop that routinely gets up to blatant gun safety violations after blatant gun safety which directly result in some guy in a state of blind panic that he caused no less to have access to his gun, which he uses to escape at all costs and commit actions that get him killed in a completely avoidable and unnecessary freak accident/earn him a completely avoidable and unnecessary 10 years sentence over them. On top of ending up killed as a direct result of the actions of that buffoon in white, an already traumatic experience to begin with (the trauma of dying result in ghosts having amnesia over the entire experience, presumably the more traumatic it is, the longer amnesia gets and Yomiel was in an amnesic daze for *DAYS* ) he ended up suffering from extended social isolation for a decade, something that has not only weird and extensively studied effects on the brain, but that will also earn you an all expenses paid trip to the city of Hague if you do it to enemy soldiers invading your home/Despite this traumatic series of events, and the fact he was further blamed for and punished for a series of actions that trace back *directly* to a buffoon dressed in white, him still being in touch with his lover allowed him to stay grounded through it all. This was followed by learning his beloved committed suicide to be reunited with him unaware he was still around and kicking/patiently awaiting his release from custody. Receiving paranormal powers that quite nicely complemented his existing and quite frankly all too predictable and understandable dark ruminations predictably worsened his mental state/receiving kickass prosthetic legs to replace those he lost while saving his hostage from a freak accident probably further helped his recovery and growth from trauma. Having the actual paranormal powers allowing him to act on his dark ruminations to force the people involved in his death to go through the closest facsimile of his death he could come up with had the predictable results of him doing just that/moving past any dark ruminations with the help of several people and actually getting a second chance in life by paranormal means resulted in a predictable but still satisfying improvement of his mental state. Finally, when a complete stranger, a stranger he both succeeded and failed to kill 5 times in the same night through the magic of an actual Schrodinger's Cat no less, gave him a much needed and deserved hug and understood where he was coming from, Yomiel took the offered solace and made it count by making the most of his second chance and saving her from the same freak accident that killed him the first time, leading to the second, new and improved timeline. Plus, Yomiel is a goddamned computer nerd. That's a *lot* of things he has in common with me, even though we have a few difference (I don't dress like a mix and match of Titeuf and Agent Smith dealing with his midlife crisis, that overzealous cop didn't leave a gun behind for me to grab and make a break for it, if he had I would have shot first and asked question never, so before his death, Yomiel kept a cooler head than I did, I wasn't killed by Sturm throwing a Meteor Strike at me, I wasn't turned into a ghost with paranormal powers by said meteor and as such wasn't actually enabled to actually act on my darkest ruminations of making those who made my life hell go through as close as the hell I went through as possible, and I didn't get a second chance at life from time travel, to name a few differences). The main differences between Yomiel and me come down to me actually acting the part when I'm turned into a cornered rat (that nurse in the psych ward the cops carried me to, dragging me to the bed they tied me up spreadeagle on when I tried to book it when I saw an opening? He probably still remembers the **vicious** bite I gave him when he and other 3 nurses grabbed me. I hope that fucker still has a scar.) while Yomiel showed considerably more restraint than I ever did or could, and that while these overzealous cops were jackasses, they were not incompetent enough to hand me a weapon on a silver platter, and there was no paranormal events to worsen my mental state with the actual *ability* to act on my darker impulses. A random hug and kindness from a stranger (though my stranger wasn't someone I killed 5 times in a single night) was enough to single-handedly kickstart my recovery though. Just like Yomiel. Be kind to strangers in pain. You never know when that single act of random kindness makes the difference between tragedy and recovery, so be nice to everyone just in case it saves someone, okay guys and gals?

@@ElodieHiras Yomiel is such a good character. I think ppl also forget that he likely had no memory for a while and couldn’t control his own body until much later. Since he couldn’t go back in time to save dead people, he couldn’t ever talk to anyone. A guy whose only or closest friend who’s alive is a cat, cuz he cannot connect with humans. It’s relatable. I think my only issue with the story (tho it’s realistic to life) is that the cop who truly messed up the most wasn’t more obviously punished and Yomiel got 10 years for running from police custody and taking a hostage that he ended up saving. Jowd had to live in jail and he has those memories still, but Cabanela doesn’t. In the timeline he STILL did what he did, and has a job. I know he worked hard for 10 years to make up for his mistake, but I feel like he deserved more punishment and Yomiel deserved less. Typical police stuff I guess. I hope you’re doing better now as well. The fact that ppl in charge like this have no semblance of empathy or understanding angers me. They just make things worse.
@WebbedManiac
@WebbedManiac Жыл бұрын
@@ma.2089Yeah I could never really get behind Yomiel getting 10 years for escaping police custody and taking a hostage. The only two explanations that I can come up with are: 1. Yomiel never really forgave himself for what he did in the previous timeline and willingly chose to stay, even though pretty much everyone forgave him. Sissel even said "It's a thing of the lost past" when Yomiel apologizes about accidentally shooting him. Or, 2. Yomiel was never proven innocent of his crime. Like, Jowd says that he was proven innocent 6 months after his "death". Maybe it never happened in the new timeline? Maybe the police didn't bother with investigating since he was alive and captured?
