Once a girl was in class during a mental health event. She was asked by her teacher what thing she has done that she was proud of herself for achieving. The girl couldn’t think of anything and told her teacher she wasn’t proud of herself for anything. Over the next few weeks she kept considering this question every day to see if she could make herself and her teacher proud. After about 2 months she was asked this question again by a different teacher, this time she had an answer but did not want to say it out loud to anybody because she was scared to reveal it. She again told the teacher that she was not proud of herself. Later that day she went home and got out a notebook. She wrote down “Things I Am Proud Of Myself For” and then went on to really think about how she was proud of herself and what for. After a few minutes, she wrote down “I am proud of myself for no longer attempting to lose weight, I am proud that I can finally seek comfort in my own body.” She didn’t tell the teachers this at all, but she knew in her head that she had a lot of reasons to be proud of herself. This is actually one of my personal stories. The first teacher being my form tutor (Mr.P) and the second one being my old English teacher from Sept-Oct (Ms.R). Both these times I was asked the question “Why are you proud of yourself?” And I could answer the question neither time. As said in the story, a few months later, I finally realised my worth and now I’m fine. Putting my stories in the perspective of a different character makes it seem like I’m not the only one like this (which I’m not). If anyone else is going through a phase of thinking they aren’t beautiful the way they are, I have a message for you: Just because you, along with other people, don’t think you’re good enough, as long as you have a body, you’re perfect. Don’t worry about your weight, wether you’re too skinny or fat (unless it’s unhealthy). Don’t worry about covering up scars, they’re part of you. Don’t worry about features you don’t like about you. Someone has probably looked at you and dreamed they were like you. Appreciate yourself
