Could be he is in pain possebly(health issues not easely found),an extreamly sencetive cat or mebe a cat thats picky about whos around him and deals with him. Cats are weard that way eather they can be the most cuddlyest cat or you can have a cat that just likes to be alone for the most time

He's got painful matting. They get very sore and it hurts them to groom. He'll feel much better the next day though. My cat was the same, he wouldn't let me touch below his ribs but now he's matt free, he's a lot better.
