Relentless shred shop is the guy in the montage who burned his middle finger. He did a follow-up video on his channel wherein he identifies what could be a pretty serious design flaw which may be causing the ghosting on the GT sensor pad. The new sensor pad is shaped kind of like a clover. (I don't recall exactly who, but one of the SLS shops did a video peeling the grip tape off to show the sensor) This shape combined with the fact that the griptape doesn't completely cover the edges of the sensor means that on the front two corners of the pad there are holes where water dirt dust can get under the grip tape and get wedged in the creases on the clover-shaped sensor pad.

FTR, this behaviour on the part of FM is blatantly illegal and will not stand up in court. To be clear, it is not only illegal for FM to void a warranty simply because a user opened their own property, made a repair, or even made modifications. It is also illegal for them to even claim that this voids the warranty. This is a blatant violation of the Magnuson Moss Act of 1975, which I suspect they are well aware of. If anyone finds themselves having warranty service denied for VnRs, adding third party accessories, etc., ask to speak to a supervisor, threaten them with the Magnuson Moss Act, and see what they say then! The only way to deal with this on a systemic, permanent level is for someone to form a class, gather litigants, and sue.

I decided to write to Future Motion about the issue, since my board hasn't shipped yet and I'm trying to decide if I should cancel it or not. Based on the response I got (below) they seem to be taking the Apple approach (You're holding it wrong!) There seems to be some misinformation out there regarding issues with the new GT Footpads. It is important to remember that the best way to disengage any Onewheel is to slow down to a complete stop and lift your heel, or if Simplestop is turned on, slowly lean back and allow the board to place the tail on the ground and step off. If you need to jump off of a Onewheel, it should be done after slowing to a stop and jumping off with both feet. Stepping off the front footpad only, trying to disengage while braking hard, or jumping off and keeping one foot on the board can result in the board changing its angle abruptly, thinking the rider is trying to have the board accelerate hard in one direction. If that is done and then the rider steps off the board, it is possible for the board to accelerate for a few feet before the motor disengages. Although there have been a few confirmed cases of boards staying engaged, most reported concerns were tied to improper engagement. We have replaced any footpads that are believed to have issues and if you believe your footpad is detecting pressure after your foot has been removed, please let us know as we would like to evaluate your footpad to make sure there is nothing wrong with it and it is safe to use. If your footpad needs to be sent in for evaluation, we will send you a new footpad first to make sure you do not have any interruptions in riding.

This happened to me yesterday, cannery row in monterey, memorial weekend, crowded. I had never heard of the term ‘ghosting’. I have almost 500 miles on the GT and this was the first time i had ever experience ghosting. I stepped off my board as i normally do and then stood in disbelief and watched this one month old GT accelerate backwards from one side of the street to the other. It struck a parked car. The owner, a father with his wife and children were outside the vehicle. I am very angry. I dont recall reading about ‘ghosting’ on the future motion website and i do not think its covered in the apps “academy”. Dont be the guy who ghosts a kid.

It's a super small percentage, and you know FM is tracking the numbers. If it was a large enough percentage they'd do a full recall. They have lawyers, theyre not stupid. If it was enough boards to justify having every gt shipped back they'd do it. Doesn't mean it doesn't suck but the videos and posts on facebook and reddit are always going to be weighted negative and make an issue like this seem larger than what it is. It's still worth complaining about, but I'm not canceling my order because of it. The chances of me getting a board with this issue or the being doa is still super small. Everyone has to decide for themselves though. That being said, the battery kill switch is a bigger problem. That's the issue everyone should be blowing up FM for. Ghosting, DOA boards are accidents, mistakes that they're (poorly) dealing with. The company intentionally bricking the board when the battery is disconnected is planned. It's a decision they made to screw us over and to force us to buy new boards once they stop supporting the GT. It's a dick move and they need to be shamed into back pedaling immediately on it. Some consumers right group or court case is going to sue them and they will lose, they would avoid all that if they just silently updated the firmware and removed that battery kill switch.
@freshlycharged2 жыл бұрын
Well stated. Like I’ve said in the past DOA and Ghosting issues were not intentional and will eventually be resolved. The Right to Repair issues are intentional and will take more effort to change.

@@freshlycharged Whoa! Hey Jimmy! I just don't understand FM at all. They could fix all of this, all this frustration and grief by just changing their tone and undoing the battery kill switch. TFL did a great video about how simple a fix would be for them. Sell the controller and battery enclosures and allow licensed dealers to become licensed techs. Done. No fuss. Bare minimum. I hope the pressure you're putting on them forces them to change...

@@freshlycharged they're being so quiet it's almost criminal lol In your vid the replacement didn't fix it either. Tbh, I'm not confident in FM or he GT. FAIL.
@venonat802 жыл бұрын
Most likely. Simple stop allows you to stop by leaning back. Even if the foot pad is faulty and reads your foot there when it’s not, once it’s stopped, it won’t go anywhere. It’ll move once it’s brought to level or angled forward.
@FAB11502 жыл бұрын
Yes, the battery is on the "behind", so when it ghosts it usually leans in the side of the battery so it goes backwards. Simple stop avoids that. If your board flips, then the OW will think it's going forwards so it won't stop. I suggest also getting a fender to avoid that!
@DG-xj7pm2 жыл бұрын
I actually really enjoy simple stop so that's good lmao. I thought they were a company of values and werent just like every other greedy business. Well, looks like I was wrong 😌. They don't want us disconnecting the battery, but fine with us disconnecting a fkn limb hahha

@@makatron Yea, it just kinda dawned on me, and I don't have a one wheel. That's why I was asking if it would be feasible. I Was just watching vids on the ghosting, and a snowmobile/surfboard tether came to mind. One, so know one gets hurt. Two so you don't have to chase it down.
@michaelangellotti47732 жыл бұрын
@@makatron Also I was thinking, like it wouldn't be just a plug in thing, which would bend, and/or rip up the connection to the board. But the cord on the plug is where the disconnect happens with the cord having a magnetic connection. So when the board ghosts the cord separates at the magnetic connection between the kill switch cord and not at the plug in the board. I would think this is possible, but I'm no engineer

When the Backfire Zealot S had a defect. I got an email and a replacement part in the mail. It was apologetic and I only knew about the recall because of a Reddit comment. 500 miles later I never replaced that part on my electric longboard like an idiot and have had no issues. Backfire has so so much less reach and they handled that situation with 10x the amount of grace. In an industry filled with bad customer service. I really think OneWheel is just being run by lawyers at this point. Taking absolutely zero accountability for a potentially deadly defect while also going anti right to repair "for safety." I want to love this company so bad but they make it incredibly difficult. Looks like a CBXR upgrade is in the works. My front pad on the XR has dinged up corners, I just replaced the griptape a couple weeks ago and zero activation/ghosting issues with nearly 1000 miles.

If an auto manufacturer knew about a problem with one of their models having a gas pedal that sticks and sends the car into an uncontrolled acceleration, they'd issue a recall ASAP. FM is going to ensure that they drive not only themselves out of business, but the entire market for any PEV like the OW as well, if they start acting like adults real soon. It's only going to take a serious injury to a pedestrian hit by a ghosting board or a board going into traffic, causing a collision that hurts or kills someone, before the legislation will start dropping in city after city banning OneWheel use in any public space. Everyone should cancel their orders or return their GTs now and demand FM fix the problems immediately before they send another board out of their factory. The way that company holds its customers in such contempt is infuriating.
