I remember back in elementary school (back in like, 2001 and 2) and my class and the other grands would go to the library and listen to these scary stories around Halloween time. The atmosphere was creepy to me since the room was dim and there were fake candles flickering and i remember my principle was telling these stories...he was amazing at telling stories.

I remember this story well. When I was a counselor at a Girl Scout day camp, I told this story to a bunch of brownie-aged girls during an overnight. I scared them so badly that they cried and wanted to go home. The funny part is that during the next session, the girls who had been in my group during the previous session wanted me to do it again. One even wanted to do the part of the dog! 😂

I am so pumped for Guillermo del Toro's version of this book! This brings back memories of being in 2nd grade, after recess our teacher Ms. Hern would turn off all the lights and read this to the class. These were some of the first scary stories I ever heard because I was the biggest scaredy cat as a kid. It was always so much fun reading these cause all my friends were around, and at the end of this story we would beg her to read it over and over!!

This story and the one about the dead woman's fingers fucked my life up as a child. High five for justice.

Possible Spoiler Alert : It's been debatable what the title of this story means, however, my girlfriend and I firmly believe that it's a "play on words" of what a rotting head would say if he was saying, "I am the doggy walker." This could possibly mean that he takes dogs to the afterlife, sorta like a dog version of the grim reaper. The dog replies humorously with types of dogs like a church choir. I wish the Scary Stories Movie had included this piece of information. We believe the movie would have made more sense, instead of throwing a random ghoul to be a scare factor. Stay safe!

I never thought of that. But after seeing the words I think it could be doggy walker.

After this reading this one Redditor’s fan interpretation, I tend to imagine the words instead as “Me Tied Ought Y(e) Walker”. Similarly, part of the second verse could be reworked as “Lynch Y(e) Kinch Y(e)…”. The rest of the proposed reworks by people on that thread seem to undergo much greater mental gymnastics. But that initial idea made think of these as garbled words, about a man who was executed by a noose (or “Kinch”) and ought to have had his corpse tied down too.

@@campfortson4387 I’m not asking for an official explanation. If anything, the OP seems to be the one doing so. I was just sharing some fan speculations, which can sometimes be fun and/or scary, specifically because they cannot be officially confirmed or denied.

Lol I like how the narrator tries to normalize the fact that an actual dog can not only talk, but that it can talk back and forth with a decapitated head First time I heard this story, I was freaked out and it stuck with me ever since, especially the jump ending 😳😱
