I have recently developed a liking to scatting but somehow all the scat videos on KZbin have a follow along kind of tutorial. Vowels like a e i o u are used with words like B and D. I understand the syllables being sung but is there a necessary structure to be followed?? Like does one have to copy every syllable inorder to sing because that's quite difficult for me. Eg: If I am listening to Ella Fitzgerald's scat in song How High the Moon, I cannot copy it word for word.. Am i missing something that I should know about?? Or are there principles that one must know before scatting or can it be improvised on the spot?? Is there a strict method to learning scat? I need your assistance with this. Thank you.
@scatkitchen6 ай бұрын
Hi! It’s great that you’re interested in scat singing! Scat is a wonderful art form that offers a lot of room for creativity and improvisation. Here are a few things you should know: Basics and Structure: There’s no fixed structure or set of rules you have to follow when scatting. Scat thrives on spontaneity and the expression of your unique style. Syllables and Vowels: Using vowels like a, e, i, o, u with consonants like B and D is common, but there aren’t any specific syllables you must copy. You can find your own combinations and experiment. Imitation and Improvisation: When practicing, it can be helpful to start by imitating well-known scat phrases to get a feel for the rhythm and phrasing. However, the goal is to develop your own voice and style. It’s perfectly fine if you can’t copy every syllable from someone like Ella Fitzgerald. Spontaneity: Scat is highly improvisational. You can and should invent new melodies and rhythms on the spot. That’s the beauty of scatting - it gives you the freedom to play with your voice. Practice and Experience: Like any other aspect of singing, scat requires practice. The more you engage with it, the more confident you’ll become and the more fun you’ll have. There’s no strict method to learning scat - the key is to be open, experiment, and have fun.

@scatkitchen3 жыл бұрын
Hello. Well, there's not only one technique. It is a combination of different skills in rhythm, harmony, syllables and experience. To copy great singers is a very good way to experience what scat singing feels like. If you practice, focus on rhythm exercises. I've planned some videos for that topic, but every rhythm exercise that you can find, will be helpful! I hope that helped a little. 🍀

Scatting is not exactly like singing. You have the notes, but where is the spontaneity, the freedom, the feeling? It seems like for you is no difference between singing something like the "overproduced" voice of Celine Dion, or the much more natural scatting of Chet Baker.
