Your videos are very well done and easy to follow. I don't know ANYONE who has knit with no mistakes. TIP for 2 at a time projects (socks, mittens, etc), IF your mistake is on the furthest from the needle, simple slip the closer stitches onto another needle such as a double point, fix the first item, then slip the other project back onto your magic loop needle. Double the fun.

Dear Jana, being far away - and far behind 😂, I am starting on this pattern with you. Have been a fan of toe-up and TAAT, so I am not finding this very difficult. But it is such a pleasure to follow you - your explanation and patience is commendable! Love your Customizable pattern, and the round toe I swear by, so these toes are round! I will however, do the Scatterby heel. Your YT channel, FB and Ravelry site has been my all-time go-to for any knitting related question I have - thank you so much for taking time out from your very busy farming life to teach these valuable skills to so many people all over the world. Very much appreciated. Warmest greetings from Cape Town, South Africa

The first time I learned MAGIC LOOP I was taught to wrap the top needle from the bottom up as well, so both needles in the same direction and the stitches don't twist. I think it's a little harder to get the yarn in between the two needles that way though, so, like you said, it's a matter of preference.

Great video! I just wanted to mention that I have done two socks at a time myself where I have made an error on one sock and not the other, and I don’t have to take both out. Since they are using two separate yarns I can take out only one side and go back to where the mistake is, then knit back up to where both sides match again and keep going. Granted, I do have to pay attention to how many rows I take out and keep track that I bring one side back to that. Sometimes if I am doing a difficult pattern I will actually MOVE the sock that I’m not needing to fix onto another set of needles, or stitch holders, or even a contrasting bit of waste yarn, just to get it out of the way and eliminate any confusion. Then once I have fixed the sock I goofed on, I put the other one back on and keep going. The other alternative is it it’s a really easy pattern, I use a tiny crochet hook and take that one or few stitches down to the error and use the crochet hook to bring it back up in the correct way. You can probably find KZbin videos on how to do that, and if not Crafty also has a class on how to fix knitting mistakes which is a pretty cool class. But this technique is not at all hard to figure out. I just wanted to mention those things because IMO while it can be necessary to take out both socks if you make a mistake, that it often really isn’t. There are alternatives. I love learning by watching other folks so thanks again for the easy to understand and well done videos!

I agree that you don't have to tink all the way back. I put the sock that's OK on a stitch holder, repair the error, replace the 2nd sock on the needles and carry on.

I like the idea, but them if you need to know the row one side I’d put a pin on that side so you remember, but it helps get rid of the tail and don’t need to sew it in after. Took me five times to get it right but have severe neck problems along with headaches! I finally got it! Thanks for the video! Tremendous help. 👍😊

There is a way to cast on for this and single socks so that you can knit the first round after the cast on from only the front. See when you cast on it makes a difference if you pass the yarn up between the needles or down. Also I learned to make my loop and "Y" so that my tail goes over my left index finger rather than over my thumb. From there if you bring the back side of the "Y" (your tail side) under the needles then over the lower needle to go under the top needle to the back and follow that by bringing the front side of the "Y" (your working yarn) up between the needles over the top needle and under both needles to the front and repeat until you have enough stitches for your project. Somehow this changes things so that you can work all the stitches from the cast on from the front. If you cast on all your stitches by bring the yarn up between the needles then around the needle for that side of the "Y" you will have to work the second half of that sock on the first round of knitting it. Please don't ask me why this happens, all I know is that I accidentally got hold of someone else's video and they did all the cast on by coming up between the needles rather that going down like you do. Then looking for more clarity I stumbled on a video where the cast on was done Like I told you above and I found that both halves of the cast on could be worked from the front. I imagine that if you were to cast on with the up between the needles and the down between the needles were switched from how I suggest here that the first round of knitting would be worked from the back all the way around. I hope you take this information in the way that I mean it, and don't take offense against this amateur coming here spouting out different ways.

You'll want to knit a swatch before you start so you can determine how many stitches per inch that you knit with worsted weight yarn. 64 sts will be way too many since normally people knit between 4-5 stitches per inch with worsted. If you don't want to swatch, (although you really should) you could try casting on 36 or 40 sts.

I make the first sock Cuff down. Before I finished the sock, I put it aside for what ever reason. I lost the pattern. Can I make the second sock "toe up", using this pattern, will it matter? I don't like the Kitchener stitch.
@PurlTogether5 жыл бұрын
You could try it, but they may fit differently. If you knit cuff down, you don't necessarily have to use the kitchener stitch to close the toe. You could simply continue decreasing the toe sts until you have 6-8 left, then run the yarn tail through them and cinch it up.

@@PurlTogether Thank you. I did work out how to knit two socks on two circulars. It took quite a few turns at starting over again until I worked out HOW TAAT goes on Two Circulars. I kept having to pull my knitting undone until I finally understood how two circulars are meant to go. Even video tutorials I’d watched - and I literally spent days watching every tutorial video that came up in my specific and even less exact searches - but none were explicit enough for me about the very important step of how two circulars are set up and how I was meant to work them. I had to work it out by trial and error to realise that I kept knitting myself ‘into a six’, and how not to do that. Now that I understand HOW two circulars work I am amazed I didn’t get it immediately. But that’s the brain for you. It has trouble imagining something it doesn’t know. And a brain that knows a thing isn’t always aware how it is for a brain that doesn’t know what can seem so simple. Thanks for your kindness. Appreciated

The Scatterby pattern isn't terribly difficult in itself, but if you haven't tried socks before, I'dsuggest my Step by Step tutorial series for your first pair. Then move on to toe up, if you prefer. Two at a time can be somewhat fiddley and tedious. Having said all that though, give it a shot if you're interested! Why not? If you'd prefer to knit one at a time, check out this playlist for my Customizable Toe Up Sock tutorial. kzbin.info/aero/PLNWbWGGFfxXlMovegqEV5u5b9IQHa9K5F Yes, if I'm understanding your question correctly, you slide the stitches you want to work to the tip of the left needle, then use the other needle to work them. You'll need to knit a swatch if you haven't already to determine how many stitches per inch you get with your chosen yarn & needle combination. Then you'll measure the circumference of the ball of your foot and your ankle. Subtract about 10% if you would like negative ease, then you'll have your cast on number. Is there a good way to figure out how many increase rows I should do if I'm getting a smaller gauge?
@PurlTogether6 жыл бұрын
You just keep increasing until you reach the number of stitches that you want for the foot portion of the sock. For example if you've determined that you need 80 stitches because you're knitting 10 stitches per inch and you have a measurement of 8-9" for the diameter, then you'll just continue alternating the increase row with the plain row until you reach 80 sts total. Does that make sense?
@H3774ND6 жыл бұрын
Purl Together yes. Thank you. I figured it was that simple - but started to second guess myself.
@lauracoleman81146 жыл бұрын
You can also increase until the toe cap covers your toes just to the top of the pinkie toe (if knitting for yourself). This will allow enough negative ease for the sock to fit tight enough and not slouch. 😁

I have looked at many vids and still don't understand how to get the toes closed. The work looks like a rectangle with increases at top and bottom, where can I find out how to do it right?
@PurlTogether5 жыл бұрын
Well, you're not closing the toes, you're beginning your knitting with the toes. The cast on is the base of the toe, then you work round and round from there, creating the sock from the toes up. Did you watch the video from the very beginning?
@carolyntolliver11465 жыл бұрын
Your vid is the most clear that I have watched. But is the toe pocket formed when you always turn your work clockwise? I thought I was doing that but I just get a rectangle. UGH!

Are you knitting in the round, or just knitting back and forth? If you've never knitted socks before, I'd suggest starting with the cuff down version.
