I love it. If they made the insect legs end in little drills or pistols, he could pull a Tarantulas. As for no real hands, he's a warbot who excels in psychological warfare. In other words, this is the bot who they hand PoWs to, so that he can torture them until they say *what he wants them to say*. This is a task one does not really need hands for. Having drills to bore holes in a robot's skull sounds more appropriate.

Toys that were noted for their abnormally high shelfwarming capacity in Beast Wars included Injector, Scavenger, Transquito, and even show character Inferno. Some reports even had Transquitos holding six or seven years after their initial release. Now that's a shelfwarmer.

Inferno's beast mode is actually a female worker fire ant, due to there being a lack of wings, which all Male ants have. So he is a Male transformer with a female beast mode.

That's one of the most badass transformers I've ever seen. The Vehicle Mode completely fits, the ant mode looks great, and the bot mode looks like inferno went to the gym and I love it. It's so monsterous and lovely. However I do disagree on most of your opinions.

I enjoyed this figure as a kid (sadly i dont have him anymore). i personally thought he looked cooler with that golden shield pointed downwards like a butt cape... which come to think of it, could help with that "Transmetal Inferno" resemblance

This is actually my favorite figure from the line. All the modes look cool and very threatening and the colors are awesome. Indeed it's a nightmare to pose in any form, but it's not like I'm going to fiddle with it every day. I own two of them, one on display and one misb. Very underrated.

These guys have a point, I love Insecticon transformers including this guy. Even though he is a Predacon I prefer to call the insects Insecticons. This once was one of my top favorite and everytime I went to walmart to get him he was sold out, so Shelf Warmer my Cybertronian Exhaust Port.

I never understood why some of these became shelfwarmers, I love Scavenger, when i first saw him as a kid i thought this was going to be Inferno in the show, turns out that wasnt the case. They never used Scavenger in the show, only in the comic. Also loved the other so called shelfwarmer, Cybertron Mudflap.

Personally, I adore scavenger, in all 3 of his modes. And personally i dont mind bug leg kibble on most beast-formers. Scavenger is one of my favorite of the beast era designs, and im so dissapointed that inferno never gained the transmetal upgrade.

It's funny how almost no one in the comments agree. Like, this is a solid figure, none of his points stand: the ant mode does look like what it's supposed to be (and does not look anything like a mantis), as far as transmetal vehicle modes it's definitively a convincing one (much better than Rhinox and Airazor, for sure), and the robot mode looks good (looks like a villain, what it's supposed to be) and seems pretty solid and well articulated. Even if it's not your thing (which, after seeing his Powerpinch review, he must have a thing with bugs and legs that spread out the robot arms), you have to give it credit in that it does well what it's supposed to do.

Also, and it seems like I'm in the minority here, I've never had a problem with the "no real hands syndrome", as long as what it has in place of hands is cool and makes sense: it's cool and makes sense for a psychotic, killer robot to have drills for hands, with which to cause slow and agonic pain to it's victims.

I have this toy and I love it, one of the best Transmetals IHMO. Excellent mechanical feel and paint, unique robot mode proportions and great possibilities of using alt mode legs when you commit yourself to it at least slightly. When you don't even go beyond turntable shot in robot mode, no wonder you can't find the potential hidden in it.

I have to disagree with you on this one. The beast form looks like an ant without too much kibble other than the wheels on the bottom. The vehicle mode looks pretty good, granted most transmetal vehicle modes just added thrusters, took out their wheels, or in Optimus primal’s case brought out his skate board. This one actually puts in some kind of attempt to be an actual triple changer. If there is a box at Walmart hiding somewhere, I’d be happy to buy the whole thing.

In terms of why he has no hands - he doesn't need them, he's a shock trooper who's only task is to attack the enemy. His single minded purpose is to destroy whatever he's aimed at, rest of the time he can sit in beast mode and await orders, like a good ant. At least that's how I see him.

Best thing to do with the Vehicle mode: keep the smaller legs inline with the torso, tilt the bigger legs up (as if exhausts). Turn the antennae vertical and sit Quickstrike in the middle, using the horns as a "seat", with him clutching the antennae. Much like with the base Inferno toy, Quickstrike and Scavenger compliment each other quite well, just like in the show.

you can try to angle the ant legs in "vehicle" mode to make them look like treads, is not easy to figure it out but it works, and in robot mode, you'll notice the ant legs are different lengths and that it has no real hands, you have to make them his fingers(that is why the leg is closer to the drills is shorter and the farther is longer)

Personally, I think this figure seems great, though I may be biased seeing as I adore constructicons, and anything close. And still, I think every mode looks great. I also find it hilarious how you hated the figure, but pretty much everyone else loved it, maybe you should learn to love it, think of the good qualities of it. :)

Inferno was said to be a bit of a shelf-warmer himself. Other rumoured examples seem to include Retrax, Transquito and Injector...take note of their alt modes, or in Injector's case, half of it!

I love this guy. The alt mode legs will fold up on the side of the arm and hide the side of the ant head. The augers also fold down to give him hook-like hands.

You know it would have been so easy to give him a better robot mode. Make the ant butt into some bulky shins, make the and head into a chest plate, make the legs into a cape of some sort, and make the horns the mandibles.

I don't think you have many Japanese Beast wars figures do you? I have a Transmetal Rattle from Japan (Rattrap) and what Takara did was they solved the naming issue by replacing the names of each figure on the toy itself to Transmetal, that's right it no longer bares the name of the character it just says Transmetal.

Scavenger IS a giant ant. He was originally intended as a Transmetals Inferno, but they renamed him due to Inferno not getting a transmetals upgrade in the show.

I am 20, I remember seeing injectors and scavengers at my local toys r us when I was a kid, I thought they were just like an exclusive subline of cybertron in reference from a comic or something. I never realised these were older then me and still being sold into 2008.
