SCSU VS BCU 5TH QUARTER 2011 PART 1

All this SCSU sounds like BCU. To set the record straight, the Shame played by the 101 is a Ronald J. Sargeant arrangement that I played when I was on the band in 1996. Only part changed was the Euphonium part at the end being taken up. Other than that, it's a Sargeant arrangement, not someone from another school's arrangement. "Taz" Thunder Brothers Inc. @slimslow1963 well not many have a prob with their play list, all they do is add to what they have every year so it just gets longer, idc about new music honestly as long as theyre not doing the same field show which they dont, id rather have alot of good solid songs and sound good than try and play wats popular and wait til half the season is gone to be where you cudve been from the start. Their new music dont sound crappy either so i mean either way they never compromise musicality #respect

I'm sorry I will never be able to give BCU the 'W' because they continue to bore me with the same songs being played in unison every year. I try my best not to hate on any band but rather to accept the different styles of bands. But its hard when you know exactly what BCU is going to play every 5th quarter every year. IJS???

Since we R being real, where does any band get it's style, technique, etc. from? Remember, no band directs itself. Mr. Ellis came from MOB, so where did MOB get the entrance from? Besides there R corpstyle bands who do that entrance. Next, the late Mr. Carnell Knighten came from Southern. Where did SU get their style, where does any band including BCU? So if you SCSU do anything similar to these bands U mentioned, credit goes 2 the band directors not those bands. Again no band directs itself.

The 101 has been playing Sarj arrangement of shame for 20 years. These two arrangements sound nothing alike. Cookman has a nice sound but poor arrangements.

wholetime, BCU's band is the best when they're on the field, esp dance routines. but wen they're in the stands they're soo boring and dry. i almost fell asleep listening to their version of hay

@FAMUgrad2003 I will to there defense e started the 5th Quarter with Hay so.......it is what it is. From a musician stand point Cookman was clean but think about it. Cookman has played the same songs for almost a decade shouldn't they be extremely clean and crisp? O_o other than that both bands are extremely good for it to be early I feel for Ayantee and FAMu when they see either of these bands.

@dlt287 there are some song that are tradition but not an entire book. Cookman is a good FIELD band but suck in the stands as far as songs. SCSU is the opposite. Kill you in the stand but lackluster on the field. Or new song will be cleand up but y'all will still be the same 15 song Cookman.

This whole argument is dumb.. Pros and cons to both. BCU: Great sound. Almost impeccable.. But, very mechanical... SCSU: Great Sound. Impassioned... But somewhat unrefined.... A manual transmission is usually not as smooth as an automatic but can be more fun

Thanks BCU for not dropping phrases. Keep striving for good balance, blend, and quality of tone--and DO YOU!! SCSU, you're getting better, but you'll be a LOT better if you didn't drop so many phrases. Ensemble releases are one of the keys to having a good band. And baritones, this is a band. Not the Union Pacific Railroad.

The 101 is puttin out some serious wattage! And these 2 schools sound nothing alike. Bands are suppose to be balanced. They both have a great sound, but don't sound alike. That's like saying the temptations sound like the stylistics.

BCU "Hay" and "Big Ballin" go hard but SCSU is garbage they have potential to be better but I'm sorry they are big for no reason. I'll admit both these bands look a like in the stands though color wise.
